Things I've been bottling in 🍾 My salary expectation should be enough that I get food on the table, be able to pay rent, save a few for medical emergencies, and for once buy cabbages without having to settle for beans! Also, I shouldn't have to pull out a calculator to try my hands at budgeting, creating tables for a 1 month or 2 months time period. Also, what is up with all these businesses asking for experienced candidates in entry level positions? 1 year minimum is the acceptance criteria but with a pay of 15k per month?!! How is that possible and even acceptable? And the audacity to reduce salaries for remote positions is simply insulting. 5-10k a month? With at least 2 years of work experience? Are they high on horse or high on helium? What could get worse? UNPAID INTERNSHIPS!!! I see some companies and I could name out a few but I won't. If only I knew their faces... Pay for labor. Labor is Labor. Someone has dedicated their time, talent, skills, and brain on the job. Pay them their worth!! Gaining experience is the compensation they say. No, it's not! It’s exploitation, plain and simple. Unpaid work is slavery. Don't tell me otherwise. Remember childhood? When parents used to give us a simple chore and that earned us five to ten rupees. A small reward for a small task. So why, as adults, do we accept mountains of work without receiving anything in return? Know your worth. #jobmarket #workculture #work #unpaidlabor #unpaidinternship #workexperience #salaryexpectation

A brief summation of applying for jobs on LinkedIn: “How much does this position you have vacant pay?” “It’s a secret, and I’ll never tell.” “Ok, well ideally what’s the salary range you have set aside for this person?” “Somewhere between that of an unpaid intern and $785,000/yr.” “Perfect, I’m looking to be in that range as well. How do you determine how much to pay that person.” “We base it on the incumbent’s experience.” “Here is my expereince.” “WOW. You are the perfect candidate. You are exactly what we are looking for and you will transform our business. How much can we pay you?” “Based on the range provided, how about this?” *writes number on paper, folds it in half and slowly slides it across the table in this Long John Silver’s booth* “Sir, you are delusional. That is way more than the unpaid intern salary we had in mind. You will not be hearing from us.” *storms out after chipmonking four hushpuppies into their cheeks*

Exploiting Talent? Employers, please Do Better! I recently came across a job posting that left me truly awful 😭. It offered a full-time internship requiring 40 hours a week for a mere $50, with a typing speed requirement of 50 words per minute, including other responsibilities. This position, despite being labeled an "internship," clearly demands significant commitment and skills. This is a sheer reminder of compensation disparities in our globalized workforce. While some might view a lower wage as an advantage when hiring talent in developing countries, it's important to remember these are fellow humans facing rising living costs just like everyone else. Also, the location shouldn't be an excuse to undervalue someone's time and expertise. Employees Deserve Better: regardless of location! ♻️Let's break this cycle of exploitation. Dear Employers:- → Please research living costs in the regions you're sourcing talent from. → Recognize the value of all skills and experience, regardless of location. → Offer competitive wages that allow individuals to live with dignity, even in entry-level positions. By working together, we can create a more equitable work environment for ALL talent, no matter where they are in the world. Please repost to create more awareness ♻️ p.s Today, May 1st, is International Workers' Day, also known as Labour Day, and it is celebrated every year to honour the working class across the world. #workersday #FairPay #GlobalTalent #EndExploitation #EthicalHiring #futureofwork #LetsTalkAboutIt #labourday #may1
