THE HISTORY AND PRESENT STATE OF THE AFFORDABLE HOUSING INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX IN AMERICA CAN BE SUMMED UP IN ONE WORD: BROKEN #HOMELESSNESS IS THE RESULT OF DECADES OF THE FAILURE TO BUILD AFFORDABLE HOUSING FOR ALL. DON'T BE FOOLED BY SLICK PROMOTIONAL POSTS THAT MAKE IT SEEM LIKE YOUR LOCAL, STATE OR FEDERAL GOVERNMENT ELECTED AND APPOINTED OFFICIALS ARE SOLVING THE AFFORDABLE HOUSING CRISIS. WHEN IT COMES TO AFFORDABLE HOUSING, THE PUBLIC AND TAXPAYERS MUST ASK: AT WHAT COST TO THE TAXPAYERS AND HOW LONG IS THE AFFORDABILITY PERIOD? EVERY TAXPAYER SHOULD BE ASKING THEIR ELECTED AND APPOINTED OFFICIALS THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS: 1. How much local, state, and federal funding, tax credits, density bonus increase, waivers of impact fees, or other government benefit or incentive did the project receive? 2. What is the affordability period for each project and, if the affordability period is not in perpetuity or permanent, WHY NOT? 3. What guarantees exist that tenants in the affordable housing units will not be displaced after an "affordability period expires? Any LOCAL, STATE or FEDERAL official that does not MANDATE "permanent" affordability periods or affordability "IN PERPETUITY" for any project receiving some government benefit is commiting MALFEASANCE and should quit, be removed from office or be terminated. IN MOST CASES WHEN IT COMES TO AFFORDABLE HOUSING, the public and taxpayer are being fooled into thinking their elected and appointed officials are solving problems, when in fact, all hey have done is "KICK THE CAN DOWN THE ROAD" to burden a future generation with the same problem or crisis!

We’re honored to support the California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) in launching $40.7 million in CDBG-DR Workforce Development grants for communities rebuilding after the 2018 wildfires. These investments create critical opportunities, including: - Training residents for construction and healthcare careers through Paradise RISE - Wildfire resilience and healthcare workforce development programs in Lake and Ventura Counties - Initiatives in Los Angeles and Shasta Counties opening pathways in trades, emergency response, and more. Thank you for a remarkable 2024! As the year comes to a close, we’re grateful to our members, affiliates, partners, friends, and followers for helping us achieve so much. Here are a few highlights: ✅ Hosted two dozen congressional and agency staff for an Alaska tour. ✅ Participated in statewide meetings with Alaska Native-serving organizations, led by the ANCSA Regional Association. ✅ Toured homesites on the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma as part of HUD’s Tribal Intergovernmental Advisory Committee. ✅ Convened our Board at the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium (ANTHC) to advance climate and sanitation coordination for housing providers. ✅ Welcomed several skilled providers to our training and technical assistance program. ✅ Launched a statewide working group to help Alaska tribes access up to $54M in one-time funding for residential energy and appliance upgrades. Looking ahead, 2025 is already shaping up to be even more impactful. Key initiatives include: ➡️ Researching housing supply chains for the Denali Commission. ➡️ Hosting a networking mixer for Alaska's housing and community development sector. ➡️ Rolling out our spring speaker series and our Alaska Tribal Housing Accelerator Academy. ➡️ Developing new resources and operational tools for our members. ➡️ Advocating policy priorities with a new federal administration. This report celebrates two decades of transformative impact, showcasing NMTC's ability to drive community development through targeted investments.
