OCRA’s Building Socially Connected Communities program recently received recognition from Reimagining the Civic Commons for its significant impact. This organization strives to “transform public spaces to foster engagement, equity, environmental sustainability, and economic development in our cities.” The Building Socially Connected Communities program is an example of an innovative statewide investment focused on tackling the loneliness epidemic. By creating inclusive public spaces and fostering community-based programming, we’re making strides to reduce social isolation and build stronger, more connected rural communities. By investing strategically in community well-being and economic vibrancy while aligning with statewide development goals, OCRA aims to foster resilient communities where all Hoosiers can thrive socially, economically and culturally.
These communities are singing, dancing and dining their way out of loneliness As America searches for solutions to a widespread and concerning loneliness epidemic, programs in public spaces can help. By encouraging social connection, boosting interpersonal trust and supporting civic engagement, thoughtful programs around the world are breaking the cycle of social isolation and bringing people together in ways that strengthen communities.
