FAQ: What makes unmeasured’s workshops different to any others? Answer: The kit of parts, Culture of Practice workshop series has been conceived to specifically address the challenges I’ve identified whilst practicing, as well as in countless conversations with architects. Designed carefully as a tailored and multi-modal series to maximise impact and behaviour change. Minimising the time commitment whilst maximising the impact. Waaay back in 2020, when we all had more time to ponder the important things in life. I was inspired by Derek Sivers’ Directives, to write my own Directives for the Architecture Profession. I came up with 25 in all. They could probably do with a good edit. But I’m pleased they still hold up pretty well. They fall into 3 categories: 1. How to do meaningful work 2. How to better work 3. How to be more generous and connect I’ll post more over the next couple of weeks. #workshops #coaching #architects #architecture #architecturalpractice #leadership

The status quo might be strangling your architectural practice. Here’s a hard truth to face… Hanging on to the familiar won't save the profession. Our profession has been disrupted for decades. The change is speeding up. And it presents real opportunity. Giving deeper consideration on delivering what the public truly values, not what we think they should value. When people fall in love with a new vision of the future, change becomes not just possible, but inevitable. What are the outdated practices you’re letting go of? What are the new paradigms of architectural value? #statusquo #coaching #architects #architecture #architecturalpractice #leadership

3 questions for architectural leaders and change-makers: Number 1 Why do you end up with a pile of butter paper when designing a building, but all the ideas you have for practice design can be written on a small post-it? Number 2 What’s the thing that’s not working or creating friction in your practice, that you’re wilfully ignoring? Number 3 What is the cost of inaction? #workshops #coaching #architects #architecture #architecturalpractice #leadership

Many architects might think their voice doesn't matter. But what if they're looking at leadership and agency all wrong? For example… The pandemic left us rethinking space, community, and collective need. Affording architects the opportunity to stand for something - public spaces, social good, environmental stewardship - instead of against challenges. Leadership isn't about having a seat at the so-called table. It's about building a table everyone wants to sit at. Here’s a challenge: What bold, transformative idea could your architectural skills bring to the world? #workshops #coaching #architects #architecture #architecturalpractice #leadership

Your fear is lying to you about risk. We tend to overestimate the size of risks while underestimating our ability to manage them. This skews our decision-making towards avoiding what we don't want, rather than pursuing what we do want. What's one fear you need to face to achieve your goals? #risk #coaching #architects #architecture #architecturalpractice #leadership

Feeling stuck simply means you’re focusing on a thought or belief that’s not empowering. Tell yourself a new story. Over the years, I’ve turned the page. And I’ve burned the book. Our CEO Sarah Kay recently spoke with #ArchitectureLab's Anton Giuroiu to discuss all things architecture and design and shares her design and leadership style. When asked about how she approaches working with clients to understand their needs and visions, Sarah responded "My vision for our business is to be relevant and impactful in finding solutions for the world’s mega-issues. I believe a ‘Total Place Design’ approach will have the most impact on the world ahead and believe this vision resonates well with all stakeholders – uniting them together for a common purpose." "To create transformative places, we need integrated thinking beyond architecture that solves problems upstream and enables connected outcomes across the design process." The architecture profession hasn't changed much in 50 years. But what if that's exactly why it’s losing opportunities? Status quo is comfortable. Awards, publications, and peer recognition keep us in familiar territory. But while celebrating yesterday's achievements, is worthwhile and important, others are moving ahead leaving the profession behind. I’m always reminded of how Buckminster Fuller put it: "To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete." I have questions… → What if we measured success differently? → What if innovation mattered more than tradition? What's one "traditional" measure of architectural success you think we need to leave behind in 2025? #workshops #coaching #architects #architecture #architecturalpractice #leadership
