This week, I had the opportunity to engage in face-to-face meetings with Epta ESG team and take a behind-the-scenes look at our factory in Limana, Italy. This experience showcased our commitment to sustainability in a tangible way. The factory is not only clean and well-organized but also exemplary in waste management, recycling everything that can be recycled. A significant addition of solar panels is currently underway on the rooftop, powering production with even more green energy. Epta is a leader in sustainable commercial refrigeration, but sustainability is a long journey. Much has been accomplished, but there is still more to achieve. Together with the ESG team, we began to map out actionable steps to increase energy efficiency, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and promote a circular economy in commercial refrigeration, to name a few. These measures are designed to support Nordic food retailers in their ESG efforts, assisting them in achieving their own sustainability goals. #commercialrefrigeration #foodretail #conveniencestores #sustainability

✨ The Compost Bag Company is now officially a Unitar SDG Pioneer! ✨ The Compost Bag Company has successfully completed the first phase of the UNITAR | CIFAL Flanders PCA2030 Trajectory through the Voka Charter Sustainable Entrepreneurship (VOKA) and is therefore rewarded with the SDG Pioneer 2024 certificate! We are proud of our commitment to sustainability and the specific actions we have taken to make a difference. This demonstrates our commitment to a better future where we focus on many different actions: - Reducing CO₂ emissions 🌍 We reduced the carbon footprint of our products by 24.5% by switching to renewable raw materials. In addition, gas consumption for heating our warehouses was reduced by 68% since 2021 by destratifiers, among other things. - Reducing microplastics 🌱 By developing compostable materials and lobbying for their use, we help reduce microplastic pollution in agricultural soils. We have also installed special filters to prevent microplastics in our own production. - Sustainable energy management 🔋 We have improved our energy consumption by revamping our production line (Bio4), reducing energy consumption by 66%. Our production now runs entirely on green electricity, and we have a strict waste policy in which more than 20 waste streams are separated. We also invested in intelligent cooling systems that not only consume less energy, but can also recover heat, further increasing efficiency. Finally, we have also tackled whole building insulation and other structural improvements that have allowed us to install solar panels on our roof. Through these initiatives, we are working towards a circular, sustainable world every day. 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗖𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗶  In recent years, the lime industry has been seeking alternative solutions to reduce the energy consumption of its production processes. This transition is motivated by several factors, including the aim to lessen environmental impact, improve sustainability, and decrease reliance on conventional fossil fuels. 𝙍𝙚𝙖𝙙 𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙡𝙖𝙨𝙩 𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙞𝙘𝙡𝙚 𝙤𝙣 𝙚𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙨𝙪𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙗𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙥𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙘𝙚𝙨 𝙞𝙣 𝙖 𝘾𝙞𝙢𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙜𝙚𝙩𝙩𝙞’𝙨 𝙡𝙞𝙢𝙚 𝙧𝙚𝙜𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙠𝙞𝙡𝙣 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙘𝙚𝙨𝙨. 

On World Environment Day, we look back at when Miss Gibraltar 2022+2023 Faith Torres spoke to our HSSEQ Manager, Kayley Mifsud, about key sustainability themes within the MH Bland Group of Companies. Since Faith’s visit, MH Bland has been developing and implementing a variety of sustainability initiatives:  ♻️ We separate our waste to facilitate recycling 💡 We use energy efficient light bulbs 🚰 We use minimal plastic in our offices, providing everyone with refillable glass bottles rather than plastic bottles ⛽ We use HVO in our vessels, a renewable biofuel that reduces carbon emissions by up to 90% 🚢 We have offset our carbon emissions from our marine vessels Here at MH Bland, we continuously work to minimise our carbon emissions to ensure a green future. There is always room for improvement, and we will continue on our mission to become more environmentally friendly 🌎 We hope this inspires other companies within our community to embrace greener practices. One of the best things I get to do with my work at Sustainability Victoria is engage with international companies and leaders to bring investment opportunities and intelligence into supporting Victoria’s developing #circulareconomy. I look forward to being part of the conversation today to advocate and make the case for the development of #biogas regulations and policy targets for Victoria as a broader discussion on the future of Waste to Energy here. For the self-proclaimed ‘lucky country’ Australia is lagging and getting left behind by the rest of the world. Australia is in the bottom quartile of OECD countries with respect to #bioenergy as a proportion of total energy supply - biomass for energy purposes makes up around 4% of total energy consumption and 1.4% of electricity generation. We need to do better. I’m looking forward today to learn how we can make that happen!
