Want to build your own in-house program to develop your faculty to teach in a way that's more aligned with and dependent upon the gospel? Now that the school year has started, you might be able to partake of different opportunities for professional growth. Conferences and workshops are great; that's why we go. But, we all know that the vast majority of what we heard rarely gets implemented in practical ways ... even if the presenters are exceptionally good. The Herzog Foundation trainings are a step in the right direction by providing time for attendees to sign up for individual coaching sessions with the presenters. Yet, the school still has to think about application and implementation of what they've taken away. So, we shouldn't be surprised that the most formative PD tends to be in-house work that gets teachers learning and growing from each other. Also, schools will continue to struggle to feel like they're vibrantly living out their missions until they can figure out a way to develop their faculty. Most conferences and workshops are geared toward leaders, but it's our teachers who are in the trenches. How do we develop them? More than anything else, that's at the heart of what we care most about at RenewED - helping our schools become more aligned with the gospel, by equipping schools to develop their faculty to teach Christianly. Certainly, I'd love to be a part of figuring out what that could look like in as many schools as possible; if there's ever a way I can help, reach out. For starters, here's an article that gives a very 30,000 foot introduction ... where to start. https://lnkd.in/gQybcbz4 #christianeducation #christianworldview #biblicalworldview #teacherdevelopment #christianschool #christianteachers

Education is far from being neutral. As educational theorist Michael Apple suggests, the curriculum and teaching methodology employed in schools are not objective tools but rather reflect the ideologies and historical perspectives of those in power. In multicultural contexts, the crucial question emerges: Whose knowledge should be embraced? Neglecting diverse cultural and historical backgrounds risks perpetuating a narrow worldview that marginalizes certain groups. 👉🏾Teaching dominant customs and beliefs raises another critical inquiry: Has this approach led us to the desired outcomes as a society? Historical examination reveals instances where exclusive teaching fueled division among diverse communities – fostering a harmonious and progressive society. 📚 By expanding the curriculum to include diverse perspectives, education becomes a catalyst for critical thinking, challenging norms, and contributing to the creation of a more inclusive and just society. How do you envision the role of education in fostering a more inclusive and just society? #schoolleaders #edleadership #whenbrowngirlslead

Thought this was a timely article to share after a recent Institute of Coaching community discussion with my higher ed coaching colleagues and peers. "Rather, dialogue as bridge-building is a long-term and sustained effort... to 'increase our individual and collective capacity to address and resolve conflict, work across differences, and lead empathically and effectively.' Dialogue does not shy away from differences, but rather confronts and negotiates them directly, skillfully and respectfully. This ability to handle conflict or difficult conversations in educational, work and community settings is essential for everyone, and as such, is built over time." #ucla #dgsom #dialogue #trust #community #coaching

I don't post for teachers often, so I'll get back to the regularly scheduled program in a moment. But for now… ⤵️ I want to address an important topic: Teachers raise expectations for your Black and Brown students!! Lowering expectations is absolutely NOT how you attend to their needs. Every student, regardless of their background, deserves to be challenged academically. By raising our expectations, we show these students that we believe in their potential and capabilities. It's about creating an environment where they feel valued and supported, where their minds are engaged and their hearts are inspired. Let's commit to challenging their minds to win their hearts. Empower them with rigorous academics and high standards, and watch them rise to meet and exceed those expectations. How have you seen higher expectations positively impact students in your classroom? #schoolleaders #edleadership #whenbrowngirlslead
