Sometimes you need a friend to show you what is possible... Eight weeks ago, Sophie Williamson (MCIM) - someone I've known "a bit" and been inspired by "a lot" over 15 years across two workplaces (The University of Salford & The University of Manchester) - mentioned she planned to make the most of self employment flexibility by jetting off to Northern Thailand. The Land of Smiles. It gave me the idea...could I join her?! Should I ask? Could we really navigate work and play too as "digital nomads"? I'm posting this whilst sitting opposite Sophie in our Koh Kood accommodation after a brilliant two weeks together. TOP TAKEAWAYS... 1. If you're thinking it, just ask...your acquaintance / contact / friend might be glad that you did and who knows where it could take you. 2. Slower business chats across a prolonged timespan of 2 weeks have led to deeper connections, understanding respective ways of working and a collaborative Marketing & Boy Oh Boy Designs pitch is already in progress! 3. Drink Iced Thai Tea - you'll be glad you did! #friends #collaborators #digitalnomads #thailand

Never use an agency and always apply for PR yourself and there are quotas: "'I was able to get a PR in Singapore in less than 2 years’ — Woman shares how she did it". Kudos to her but she fits some of the criteria hence why she was successful. I applied for PR almost as soon as I got to Singapore as I realised pretty early on that both the EP and then PEP that I was on weren't very secure. It took me only a year but that was then, this is now when it's many times harder. Many of my business owning friends have failed many times to get it because they are not fitting into the strict criteria that includes: - we do have a quota system and PR applicants like EPs and citizenship applicants have to fit within this which is 76% ethnically Chinese, 14% ethnically Malay, 9% ethnically Indian and 1% everyone else/Eurasian.... So you can see that it's very hard if you're caucasian to get it. - if you're married to a Singaporean it helps - if you own property here it helps - if you are under 40 it helps - if you run your own company and employ Singaporeans it helps - if you're earning lots of money it helps - if you have a son and include him on your application which means that he will have to do NS (conversely if you don't include him you will be knocked out) The whole voluntary side of things is a red herring. ICA don't care, all that they care about is your economic worth and your integration into our society. PR is also not permanent as this lady tells and I have also heard of many people's PR being cancelled for not paying CPF or shortened to a year. But never ever use one of these agencies that promise you PR but 99% fail and get you the same result as if you did it yourself but you're out several thousand dollars! They usually tell people to appeal and charge them for doing so but the fact is that you are no more likely to get it on appeal than the first time. What do you think? What's your experience with the PR process? If you are looking for a portfolio career of multiple income streams rather than just one big role we can help you with our specific low cost Job Seeker Personal Branding Service for LinkedIn which now includes a FREE CV too, details here https://lnkd.in/dqWRi6EZ https://lnkd.in/g4R39_be

Why are you doing what you're doing today? I bet, it’s more than just to pay the bills. I used to work for a corporate secretarial firm, where I'd help entrepreneurs register their business and more. My team members were great, and I was their top salesperson. Life was supposed to be good, but something was missing... 🤔 Deep down, I knew my true passion was in marketing. I’d always been fascinated by human behavior and the power of brands. Like, why would you spend $20 on ramen when you can get a bowl of noodles for $5? One day, I decided to follow my passion and become a marketer. I landed a role as a Marketing Executive at Mount Faber Leisure Group, a leading attractions company that managed the Singapore Cable Car and more. Over the years, as a marketer for companies like Domino's, KFC, BreadTalk and Toast Box, I've had small wins like a taxi uncle recognising our brand and... I've also had big wins of smashing record sales and profits consistently year-over-year. I used to think I had all the answers when it came to branding. But stepping into a regional role opened my eyes to the importance of respecting and embracing local perspectives. Now, I use consumer insights to develop strategies to build brands that culturally and functionally relevant. Honestly, I just love seeing customers smile. Helping them out and making their day a little easier. 🔥 I’d love to hear: why do what you do now? 📷: Comforted with a bowl of ramen on a business trip to Seoul for a research work. It was the early stage of post-COVID, had to isolate myself until negative test results. #purpose #mission #marketing

🔥 How I Landed My First 5-Figure Deal Through Networking I was at a conference, happened to be sitting beside a CEO. We exchange e-business cards. He checked my LinkedIn Moments later, I get a DM: “Teach me how to fuel up!” (My LinkedIn headline then was “I help people and organizations go from burnout to fuel up!”) 😂 We laugh, chat during the break, and I share valuable insights—no pitch, no agenda, just pure value. Days later, he asks me to propose a plan for his team. Boom 💥 My first 5-figure deal, sealed without selling! So, how did content creation play a role in networking (without feeling awkward) : 👉🏻 Builds Trust ↳ My content showcased my expertise, making it easy for him to trust my insights. 👉🏻 Creates Connections ↳ Content opens doors to conversations that would otherwise never happen. 👉🏻 Showcases Value ↳ Consistent content shows I’m here to help, not just sell. 👉🏻 Boosts Credibility ↳ Thought leadership positions me as the go-to person before I even walk into a room. 👉🏻 Opens Door of Opportunities ↳ Content leads to DMs, conversations, and deals—without awkward pitches. Forget small talk, business cards, and juggling appetizers in a crowded hotel ballroom. 😬 Let your value added contents speak for you, build trust, and attract the right connections! Stop hiding—your next big deal could be just a post away! P.S. 💬 How do you network without the awkwardness? Drop your tips in the comments—I’d love to hear how you build connections authentically! 👇 📸: Celebrating Teddy Sun Office Grand Opening recently, together with the amazing Indonesian 🇮🇩 Ambassador to Singapore, Pak Suryopratomo and Indonesian leaders. Congrats once again Teddy! #Networking #ContentCreation #AuthenticConnections

🌟 First Event in Bangkok🌟 I’m excited to share the journey behind my first-ever event in Bangkok! While I’ve managed good amount of events before, this one was different—new city, new people, and the challenge of a language barrier. But with an incredible local team and determination, we pulled off a fantastic event that hit all the right marks with the client. 🚀 From Planning to Execution: The planning started with structuring the event and working closely with the creative team to bring our vision to life. We sourced reliable vendors, finalized every detail with the client, and even created LED visuals that had to be perfectly synced on event day. The production process was all about coordination, from locking down the agenda to ensuring everything was on schedule. 🎬 Production Phase: As production kicked into gear, things started to fall into place. We finalized the agenda, ensuring that everyone—from the MC to the KOLs—knew their role. Then came the technical side: creating LED visuals that had to be perfectly synced with the event flow. This was crucial, as it could make or break the entire experience on the big day. Back-and-forth communication with the client was key here, ensuring we stayed aligned on every moving part, including the visuals. 💥 Challenges? Of course, there were challenges—like a last-minute print error, language barriers, and sudden team changes. But we tackled them head-on, staying focused __ no matter what, we were going to pull this off. 🎉 Event Day Highlights: On event day, over 100 attendees showed up, fully engaged. The LED visuals and agenda ran smoothly.Got a real insight into how events are run in Thailand and learned a ton about how different teams work together here. This project was a huge win, both professionally and personally. Can’t wait for what’s next! #EventSuccess #BangkokVibes #GrowthJourney

So, something dramatic happened to me when I was home alone yesterday... I was in the kitchen when I heard a sudden, loud knock at the front door. It went something like this... “Knock knock knock knock knock, knock knock” It was 7 p.m, and I hadn’t ordered anything. Could it be a friend who came to visit unannounced? Without thinking too much, I gladly approached the door. When it opened, I felt an odd chill. Guess what? No one was there. 🙃 “Must be parcel delivery” I thought to myself. So I searched the corners for signs of parcels, presents—I don’t know—but there was nothing in sight either. It didn’t really scare me because it wasn’t late into the night, and I could still hear commotion from the dinner crowd downstairs. But last I checked, yesterday was the last day of the Hungry Ghost Festival in Singapore… #truestory Was it me overthinking or a ‘friend’ really came by? Anyways since I have your attention now, on a brighter note, we do have some not-so-scary opportunities knocking at your door now. We are #hiring Customer Success Manager to join our growing team at Jobstreet Singapore . Interested candidates can reach out to me or our lovely TAs for more information. Don’t worry, we won’t ghost you...👀 #hungryghostfestival2024 #hiring #singapore #customersuccess
