🥚 The good ol’ 90’s 🥚 The thirst of running a business started very young for me. It started in 1991, at the age of 12. My best friend and I had the famous ‘Egg Round’ where we lived. We worked our three local roads hard. We had our business cards, knocked on doors, sold our pitch and built a healthy book of orders (we had LOADS). Once the farmer had delivered huge trays in his van, we’d spend time splitting out the eggs (large and not so large 😂), We cleaned off the stuck on feathers, re boxed them and loaded up our ‘acquired’ shopping trolley - thanks to our dad for our mode of delivery 😬 Saturday morning we would spend the whole morning delivering orders, collecting egg boxes from the week before - sustainable even back then. Our weekly pay was around £6 a week. I couldn’t tell you how long this venture lasted for! I felt like a lifetime. We loved our business venture. *disclaimer* said superstore did knock on our door to retrieve said trolley some months later. No trolleys were harmed in the process 😂 I never put this experience on my CV but I should of done! #startingyoung #businessowner #egground #businessexperience

Growing up, my mom had a simple approach to school snacks - a single digestive biscuit packed neatly in my lunchbox. While I cherished that biscuit for its thick, crunchy texture and the fond memories it brought, it also sparked a desire for more choice. Unlike some classmates who enjoyed a variety of snacks during break, I often found myself longing for that same freedom. Then, a pivotal moment shifted my perspective. With just 10 naira in hand, I ventured to the market, purchased 'nzu' and packaging materials, and transformed them into sellable portions. The next day, armed with my goods, I confidently entered school ready to make my first sale. Thanks to a supportive seatmate who became my first customer, I quickly turned my initial investment into profit. This experience taught me the power of initiative and the value of seizing opportunities. Now, as a Stay-at-Home Mom, I continue to draw upon the lessons learned from my first business venture. The joy in my heart when she said yes! Oluwatoyin has consistently made crispy, delicious groundnuts in my neighbourhood. Earlier this month, she complained about her finances and how her sales couldn't sustain her. She isn't well educated, but she uses her Android phone well. I suggested GroubyNG to her for selling her wares online, and after a quick briefing, she said, "NO WAHALA." 'I share my dreams with very few folks.' Great advice from Ameena Payne from Little Rascal Delights. Who started a dog treats business in just a couple of months. So why not share your dreams? Ameena goes on to explain: 'I think if I had shared it with other folks they would have said: 'That's Silly' and shut it down. We are all about testing and Market Validation at Xsellerate Pty Ltd. But caution declaring your dreams to people who may not have your vision or drive. Ameena's small start-up in dog treats began incredibly organically. I first noticed this girl sitting on a fold-out chair. She was testing her dehydrated dog treats by giving them away in the park. This allowed her to test what was in demand. Within a couple of months, she had beautiful packaging developed, a website and is now in business selling to local cafes, online, and people at the dog parks. Go Ameena!! What do you think?
