What's the Difference Between Formative and Summative Assessment? Formative Assessment Goal: To monitor student learning and provide ongoing feedback for improvement. Benefits: It helps students identify strengths, weaknesses, and areas needing work. Enables instructors to pinpoint and address challenges immediately. Low stakes (little or no point value). Examples: 1. Creating a concept map to illustrate topic understanding. 2. Submitting a sentence summarizing the main point of a lecture. 3. Turning in a draft research proposal for early feedback. Summative Assessment Goal: To evaluate student learning at the end of an instructional unit against a benchmark. Characteristics: High stakes (significant point value). Measures overall achievement. Examples: 1. Midterm exams. 2. Final projects. 3. Research papers or recitals. Bonus Tip: Summative assessments can also be used formatively when feedback informs future learning efforts! #Assessment #formative #summative #life_long_learning #edutech #higher_education #Education #Assessments #studentlearning

That is very well explained! In my opinion, formative assessments are a more intuitive learning process, whereas summative assessments demand a holistic approach. In modern education, feedback-based education and continuous learning are gaining popularity.
