"Precious data from space missions, going back decades, is being carefully restored and archived by scientists at NASA's Space Science Date Coordinated Archive, allowing researchers today to make new discoveries by delving into the history books. "What's surprising is how much of this information is either lost or at least not in a condition that anybody can use it in," planetary scientist David Williams of the National Space Science Data Center Archive (NSSDCA) told Space.com. "We've got tons of photography, reels of film from various missions, a lot of microfilm and microfiche. We're slowly working through it""

Did you know? Time is a fundamental concept in both our daily lives and the scientific understanding of the universe. It is a continuous, irreversible progression in which events occur in a sequence from the past, through the present, and into the future. https://lnkd.in/g2Ee56vz #zeptosecond #timemanagement #timeflies #timeless #timelapse #clocks #watches #timepiece #clocktower #watch https://lnkd.in/gQVRTdzg

The Best Scientific Documentary Ever Made? I'd like to put this documentary up for consideration as the greatest ever. I don't usually post on Linkedin about Astronomy, although some of you will know I'm an enthusiastic amateur astronomer and a NASA Solar System Ambassador (a volunteer position) so I'm fascinated by the universe. It's difficult to grasp, and this gets mentioned in the documentary, just how important a discovery this is for mankind. Detecting gravitational waves allows us to perceive our universe in a completely new way. We're not just looking at the "stuff" (matter and energy, regular and dark) in the universe anymore, we're looking at how the fabric of the universe, spacetime, is constructed. "LIGO - Director's Cut" tells the story of the first time we've detected anything from the Universe other than "light". In some ways, that makes it like pointing the first telescope at the sky. Gravitational Waves were predicted by Einstein, but few people thought that measuring them was possible. We can now hear how spacetime "rings" after energetic events like the merger of black holes or neutron stars. The story is told by the people that made it happen. Three of whom received the Nobel Prize in 2017. The stories are both detailed and personal. If you're a science and technology enthusiast, this is a serious opportunity to dig in and enjoy. #astronomy #gravity #discovery
