There's 2 sides to GIS... Side A: An organization celebrates the local employee who figured out to print a map and makes them the GIS manager. Side B: A GIS Analyst makes a program that automates a process to make everyone's life easier and no one knows about it. It seems like the people who understand and improve GIS systems end up moving on to other professions like programming or security and the people who are the best politicians end up with the GIS Manager positions.

🗺️ Most GIS professionals are drawn to maps, data, and the stories they tell. But let's face it, not many are thrilled about security patches and software upgrades. The blurred lines between IT and GIS roles can lead to 'ownership' issues with GIS teams often carrying the bulk of application management. The result? Disengaged staff, increased security risk, and capability gaps. This challenge can persist for years, often unknown to management until a critical issue arises. If GIS application management is stuck between IT and GIS teams, solutions range from team training to hiring or a managed services solution. Where does GIS management sit in your organisation? 🌐 #GIS #ITChallenges #ManagedServices
