Assessment of the overall trend in child obesity prevalence in England from 2023 to 2024: Obesity prevalence for reception children was 9.6%, which was an increase from 9.2% in 2022 to 2023 Obesity prevalence for year 6 children was 22.1%, which was a further decrease from previous years (22.7% in 2022 to 2023) #childhoodobesity #prevention #publichealth
📢 New Data Release 📢 The 2023/24 National Child Measurement Programme report from NHS Digital, with support from the Department of Health and Social Care, reveals some concerning trends in child health across England. Obesity rates among Reception-aged children (4-5 years) are on the rise, with a slight decline seen in Year 6 pupils. However, an increase in underweight prevalence in Year 6 children and shorter average heights in Reception children compared to other high-income countries highlight a worrying “double whammy” of undernutrition and obesity. These challenges are particularly acute for children from disadvantaged backgrounds. At HENRY, we recognise the need for a systemic approach to tackle these deeply rooted and complex issues. Our programmes for parents and training for practitioners are designed to support positive, sustainable family habits around eating, physical activity, and navigating the broader obesogenic environment we all live in. “HENRY’s mission is to ensure that every child has the healthiest start in life. These figures are a call to action for targeted support that addresses the roots of poor health in early years, especially for children in our most vulnerable communities.” – Beckie Lang, CEO of HENRY By equipping families and the professionals who support them, we aim to make a meaningful impact on the health and well-being of children. Together, we can help shift the dial on child health and work towards a future where every child has the opportunity to thrive. 🔗 Find out more about how HENRY is making a difference: https://lnkd.in/eDnA2yF2 📊 For more insights on these pressing trends in child health, explore the full report from NHS Digital here: https://lnkd.in/gQ74Wk7f #ChildHealth #PublicHealth #NHSData #FamilyWellbeing #HealthyStart #HENRYImpact #PreventionFirst #ChildhoodNutrition #NHSDigital

https://lnkd.in/gJWGGWrR I have seen these reports for 25 years....and not much changes..we need a comprehensive national, state and local policy to protect our children. The focus should be on the schools, healing programming and healing environments promoting social emotional learning, wellbeing and resilience. #childrenmortality #healingenvironnments #wellbeing

How healthy are our children, really? There seem to be loads of resources, clubs and initiatives out there to teach the UK's children about healthy living, but when did we all last sit down and look at the cold hard numbers?
