Gender-transformative messaging is a powerful tool in the prevention of violence against women and girls (VAWG). Tailoring prevention strategies to challenge harmful beliefs, norms, and behaviors among both specific and general populations is essential for reshaping attitudes toward gender equality and addressing the root causes of VAWG. The Communicating Equality project created two Discussion Guides to support organizations in this work: >> Guide 1: Summarizes current approaches to gender-transformative prevention messaging for specific and general populations and invites thinking on public communication in the Canadian context: https://buff.ly/41354tK >> Guide 2: Designed for organizations working with men and boys, this guide provides examples of messaging approaches that promote healthier masculinities and support men and boys in acting to prevent VAWG: https://buff.ly/4102V1X This project was funded by Women and Gender Equality Canada. #EndVAWG #CommunicatingEquality #GenderEquality #ViolencePrevention #PrimaryPrevention #NoExcuse #16Days

March 8th is an emblematic date where the importance of gender equality and the elimination of discrimination against women worldwide are highlighted. This day reminds us of the need to empower women in all areas, protect their rights, and enable them to reach their full potential. In 2024, UN Women focuses on the theme of "Financing Women's Rights" as a crucial step towards equality. This approach requires joint actions to combat discrimination and promote equality in areas such as eradicating poverty and inequality, sustainable development, and a society based on care and support. 💜 PWO Mexico, a company committed to equality and justice, thus we have taken various actions, from breast cancer prevention campaigns to the creation of lactation areas, through inclusive hiring policies that are non-discriminatory. Additionally, there are daily actions we can implement in our environments and circles of influence to contribute to this cause. What other actions do you carry out? #PWOMéxico #PeoplePlanetProgress #GenderEquality #WomensRights #EmpowerWomen #UNWomen

The Nordic countries are often seen as leaders in gender equality, yet they also have high rates of gender-based violence (GBV), a phenomenon known as the "Nordic Paradox." Experts propose various explanations, including a "backlash effect" and alcohol's influence, though reporting differences may also play a role. While high reporting rates in the Nordics shed light on GBV, recent funding cuts to victim support in Finland highlight a gap in addressing this serious issue. As Katju Aro warns, without adequate resources, the true cost of this violence will continue to burden society. A Top Story by Niina Leppilahti and Erica Bernsten Strange.
