Glad that Office of U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is bringing attention to this and pushing HUD to do more, but the main source of the overall problem of "dangerous dwellings" is the severe weakness of tenant protections in Georgia (which puts tenants in a severely powerless position vis-a-vis landlords) and the inability of local governments to enforce housing codes proactively and adopt and enforce their own tenant protections. Moreover federally subsidized/financed properties should have stronger tenant protections than currently provided for in landlord-friendly states like Georgia, including LIHTC properties.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution covered Senator Ossoff's hearing today in Roswell on tenants' experiences with unhealthy and unsafe housing.
