We're excited to share that K Street Capital has invested in Carbon Country! At Carbon Country, co-founders Mark Smith and Josh Phelps are assembling a portfolio of pastureland that will generate income from the essential commodities of today and tomorrow: food, renewable energy and carbon. Their focus on Agrivoltaics (solar over agriculture) has the ability to unlock the value of struggling small/medium-sized ranches. Stacking regenerative agriculture and carbon removal also turns pasture land into a uniquely valuable real asset. Mark and Josh are doing some incredible things, and we're glad to be part of their journey!

"CEA is still relatively new in the US. Therefore, we are all still learning and should be honest about it. It has a lot of opportunity but we're not sharing the best practices. We're not competition, so we should work together to crack the code of economics and profitability. But we're not there yet." Vertical Farm Daily shares some key takeaways from the "Cutting Through The Noise" panel discussion with Glenn Behrman, CEA Advisors; Joe Swartz, American Hydroponics; Allison Driskill, Signify | Philips; and Jennifer Waxman, Farmher, Seed2Source. We lost 99.9999% of all bison. How did they not go extinct? As the 1800’s came to a close, there were 5 small herds of bison that individuals captured out of the wild and saved the species from extinction. These 5 herds were: - Frederick Dupree - Dakota Territory - Charles Alloway & James McKay - Northwest Territories (Saskatchewan & Manitoba) - Latatitsa (Little Peregrine Falcon Robe), Walking Coyote, Pablo & Allard - Montana Territory - Charles & Mary Goodnight - Texas - Buffalo Jones - Kansas Without the efforts of these cavalier individuals, we may not have any bison left today. What do all these people have in common? They had a vision and were bold enough step out and take action for something they believe in. Can you imagine speaking out against the destruction of the buffalo amid a frenzy of profiteering? The people who saved the buffalo had a conviction that it was the right thing to do and took deep committed action. This is how it feels to be a part of the regenerative agriculture & bison movement today — a beastly system setup to extract profits at the expense of soil, animal and human health, but with a small but growing group of us dedicating to creating a new system that brings life and prosperity back to the land and people on it. The regenerative bison movement has benefitted from perspectives from the outside — people who don’t have preconceived notions of what should and shouldn’t be done. These are the disruptors, they don’t think inside the box. What could someone from a city, working in a professional white collar job with no experience in bison, ranching or land management possibly offer to the bison business? There is a massive pool of talented, passionate people who are starving to commit themselves to a meaningful cause. They bring business acumen and experience that the regenerative ag movement desperately needs. This will require big ideas and big action. Think of the land and bison visionaries of the last century: - Theodore Roosevelt - Allan Savory - Gabe Brown - Ted Turner Where these people sitting around, waiting for someone to give them permission? Of course not. Bison and regenerating land has a captivating power to attract interesting, driven people to the cause. We as a society need high-achieving people who are motivated to make a difference in the world. We need those people to commit to a path that has yet to be blazed, to new create ways of doing business and managing nature. People are starved for meaning in their lives. Everywhere you look, people are desperate to contribute to a mission, a purpose that makes them feel like they are making a difference. Restoring land, bison, community and human health offers that sense of purpose. Follow along the journey to bring bison back to restore land and purpose: https://lnkd.in/gb6XE5Vv

CoverCress, like winter wheat, provides invaluable ecosystem services and revenue for farmers. Now we need to ensure those benefits are recognized by carbon accounting schemes like the Greenhouse Gas protocol. What does it matter if a farmer harvests a crop as long as the same sequestration activities are realized?
This isn’t dirt. It’s soil. And that makes all the difference. Climate change is driven by an excess of greenhouse gases in the air. Carbon is one of them. But the very molecule damaging our atmosphere becomes a resource in a farmer’s soil. Cover crops pull carbon underground over winter which makes soil healthier. But their value to farmers has traditionally stopped there since these crops were never harvested or sold. Until now. CoverCress™ is a cash cover crop. It has all the climate and soil benefits of a traditional cover crop, but it can also be harvested as a renewable fuel feedstock, turning a sustainable environmental practice into a sustainable business practice. And that’s why it can be a key building block of a regenerative agriculture system. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gZVtDT8n
