🌟 Join Us for a Special Event This Friday! 🌟 Today, we’re excited to share a heartwarming story from one of our supporters and invite you to a special event hosted by Fortune Creek to support Kelowna's Gospel Mission. 🎉 Event Details: 📅 Date: Friday, June 28th 🕓 Time: 4-8 PM 📍 Location: 231 Bernard Ave Enjoy special performances by Dawson Gray + Guests, delicious treats like Famous Butter Tarts, fresh fruit milkshakes, pies, sausage, and more! ✨ Call to Action: Please bring food donations or cash. All contributions will support Kelowna's Gospel Mission. Here’s a story that highlights why we are the charity of choice for Fortune Creek: "I heard a story once that described the difference between Heaven and Hell: In Hell there was a huge table, on it was every food imaginable, and you were allowed to eat whatever you wanted, they only rule was you could not eat with your hands. People around Hells table were sad and hungry because the utensils they were forced to use we so large they could not hold it in their hands and feed themselves. So they starved. In Heaven they had the same huge table, with the same food, and the same large utensils. Similarly, you were allowed to eat whatever you wanted, provided you did not eat with your hands. But unlike Hell, they were laughing and smiling with full bellies of amazing food. How? Because rather than feed themselves, they fed each other. That’s why the utensils were so large to begin with and because they took care of each other’s needs, they flourished. The reason why we chose KGM is we believe community challenges require community solutions. The KGM is one the best initiatives to help support our growing and changing community’s needs. " Bring your family and friends for a wonderful time! We look forward to seeing you there! #SupportLocal #Kelownas #FortuneCreek #SpecialEvent #FamilyFriendly #CommunitySupport #LocalSupportGospelMission #CommunityEvent #GiveBack

🧁🍰🎂 Let them eat cake 🎂🍰🧁 Gloucestershire colleagues. Can you help? We really, really need you to. Yesterday, my incredible team and I, along with volunteers from @BraveHCG, picked, packed, collected, carried, sorted, stacked, and stuffed our way through gift sorting and hamper filling for Caring for Communities and People #HamperScamper. We set a hamper-filling record for this year (so far). 125 hampers packed, sealed, and ready for distribution. It would have been 150 hampers. What stopped us? Not enough cake! The incredible thing about #HamperScamper is the generosity of such a wide group of people and businesses. The downside is we’re never quite sure what we’ll have lots of, and what we’ll have little. Right now, it’s everything, but most of all, cakes. Christmas Cakes, Yule Logs, Christmas Puddings. Whatever you want to donate. The grand total now stands at 500 complete. 2,500 still to source and pack. There are nowhere near enough donations in yet, and every day, every item, counts. Can you donate? Everything you need to know (what, where, how?) is here: https://lnkd.in/eBmwHASc [Video shows the 25 boxes that we’d part-filled, before we ran out of cake] #ESG #VolunteeringDay #WeAreCCP #PurposeLed #AmplifyingImpact

🍲 Food Charity Done Wrong: Are You Actually Helping? 🍲 We all know the importance of food. It’s central to our lives, and when we think of charity, donating food feels like a natural way to give back. But not all food donations are as helpful as they seem. 🚫 Stop Following the Trend 🚫 Have you seen those viral videos of people distributing food on the streets or cutting cakes in front of hungry children? While they might seem heartwarming, these acts can sometimes do more harm than good. Free street handouts can create unhealthy dependencies and encourage begging. And let's not forget about the party leftovers—donating food that’s about to spoil is not the way to make a real difference. ✅ What Can You Do? If you want to make a meaningful impact, consider donating to organizations that cook and serve nutritious meals or provide groceries to community kitchens. This ensures that those in need get balanced, safe food. Whether it’s institutions feeding children, the elderly, or victims of natural disasters, your contribution will go further when it’s done thoughtfully. Remember, food is life. Let’s make sure it’s given with care, not for show. 🙏 #FoodCharity #GiveWithCare #StopStreetDonations #DonateSmart #DoGoodBetter #HelpTheNeedy #FoodForAll #CommunityCare #CharityWithPurpose #GiveBackRight #NoMoreJunkFoodDonations

Let's spend Christmas with our community! The holiday season can be a time for celebration, warmth, and togetherness, but, it can also be a stark reminder of scarcity and hunger. Food insecurity doesn’t take a break during festive periods, and countless families struggle to put meals on the table. Supporting local food banks is one of the most impactful ways to make a difference, ensuring that everyone in the community can share in the joy of the season. Donating non-perishable food items such as rice, pasta, canned goods, and cooking oil can go a long way in helping food banks meet the needs of those they serve. These simple contributions can provide nourishment and hope to families who might otherwise face empty plates. Every bag of groceries, no matter how small, adds up to create a ripple of change. Imagine the relief a mother feels knowing her children will have a warm meal this Christmas or the gratitude of an elderly person receiving food supplies to last through the week. Volunteering at a food bank is another way to make a meaningful impact. Sorting donations, packing food items, or helping distribute meals connects you directly to the cause. It’s a chance to see the difference your efforts make and to be reminded of the power of community. Giving your time shows that you care not just about the problem, but also about the people affected by it. We have an opportunity during the holidays to look beyond our own celebrations and consider those who might not have the same privileges. Supporting food banks is a call to shared humanity. It’s about making sure that no one is forgotten, no one is left behind, and everyone feels a little less alone during this season of giving. Your contributions, whether in the form of food, time, or even monetary donations, have the power to transform lives. Let’s ensure our celebrations aren’t complete until they include uplifting others. A full plate can mean so much more than food, it’s a sign that someone cares. Be that someone. Support your local food bank and help turn hunger into hope. #geancocommunitycenter #ChristmasWithCommunity #communitydevelopment

Our most popular item to rescue is certainly bagels, and we've been collecting them from a number of places, such as Uber Bagels & Deli. Because of this, our Founder and President has been nicknamed "The Bread Guy" by the friendly front desk faces at Helping Up Mission. What really makes the job of rescuing food so good is hearing from the community in need about how excited they are for donations coming their way. Those at Helping Up Mission enjoy the agency they have, by receiving these bagels, to make their own breakfast sandwiches the next morning. A popular recipe that's been mentioned by one of the front desk employees is an everything bagel, slightly toasted, with a slice of cheese, a fried egg, and a breakfast meat of your choice (could be bacon or sausage), all topped off with A.1. steak sauce. "It's a recipe that I made at home when I was little, and that just brings back great memories," he says. We're happy to partner with Uber Bagels & Deli and Helping Up Mission in our effort to rescue leftover food for the community in need, and we hope you will consider Leftover Love Inc. this Giving Tuesday :) Donate at https://lnkd.in/etdP7Qcp. #GivingTuesday #GivingTuesday2024 #donatenow #givingback #nonprofits #baltimore #foodrescue #nowastedfood #feedingbmore #feedingbaltimore #foodjustice #fooddonation #baltimorefood #baltimorefoodrescue #bmorefoodrescue #bmorecommunity #beagoodneighbor #nofoodwaste #saynotofoodwaste #communityresource #foodinsecurity
