IDAHOBIT marks a day dedicated to raising awareness about the discrimination and violence faced by the LGBTQIA+ community. This day is a powerful reminder of the ongoing struggle for equality and the importance of standing together to create a world where everyone can live with dignity and authentically without fear. Our new Best Practice Guide highlights the discrimination trans women face in many aspects of life around the world - health, education, employment, marriage, culture, politics, the economy and citizenship. These are rights protected by the UN treaty on women's rights (CEDAW), and the decision-making body which monitors compliance with the treaty has said in unambiguous and unequivocal terms that trans women and intersex women enjoy those rights as women. The Guide is an effective tool to explore how trans women can report and raise awareness of rights violations in an international forum. Although our Best Practice Guide is limited to providing guidance and insight into CEDAW in the context of trans women’s rights, it may provide a useful foundation for future exploration of how CEDAW can be used to advance the rights of other individuals within the LGBTQIA+ community. As we commemorate 30 years since the Beijing Platform for Action, young leaders are gathering to assess the progress made and the work left to do. This year's Beijing +30 Youth Consultation is particularly focused on including voices that are often marginalized, and for me, it’s that of women with disabilities. For women with disabilities, the barriers to equality can be even more significant, as they face limited access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities, and often encounter stigma in both public and private spheres. At the heart of the Beijing +30 Youth Consultation is a commitment to break down these barriers, and ensure that future policies and actions foster a truly inclusive world. Let's support policies and partnerships that amplify these voices and create equal opportunities for ALL women, irrespective of ability. These days I have been talking and discussing male Allies for women’s rights in Afghanistan and whenever this discussion comes up, I remember a question posed by a male manager of a women's NGO in Nangarhar: “If the Taliban can convince boys and men to explode themselves, taking not others lives but also their own, why can't we convince men to support women's rights, which is also for their benefit?” This question highlights a profound and critical issue that requires an in-depth discussion and analysis from all angles. - Haven’t we been able to create a proper narrative for mind shift? - Haven’t we been able to create education, awareness and exposure about the importance of women’s access to their basic rights as equal human beings? - Haven’t we been able to create effective community engagements and grassroots mobilization? What else, there must be more, that we haven’t done well, please share.

Today, October 11, is the International Day of the Girl Child. This day aims to recognize the potential and challenges faced by girls around the globe. This year's theme, "Girls' Vision for the Future," highlights the importance of empowering girls to shape their futures and create a better world. As we celebrate the resilience and determination of girls worldwide, we must acknowledge the obstacles they face and work towards creating an environment that fosters their growth and success. To realize girls' vision for the future, we must invest in quality education and skills training, promote gender equality and challenge harmful norms, ensure access to healthcare and reproductive rights, and foster safe spaces for girls' participation and leadership. The theme "Girls' Vision for the Future" reminds us that girls are not just the leaders of tomorrow but also the change-makers of today. To boost girls' empowerment, community leaders, parents, and educators must speak up for girls' rights and policies, set an example of positive conduct and values, and create inclusive and safe learning settings, among other things. Girls' empowerment contributes to achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by improving education outcomes, boosting economic growth, reducing maternal and child mortality, and promoting gender equality. As a Teens coach, I have mentored girls to greatness and have been affiliated with several organizations like FIDA and other NGOs that support the girl child. Through these platforms, several interventions have been made and successes recorded. Presently, as the secretary of the African Women Lawyers Association, Nigeria (AWLA) Imo State chapter, our objective is to enhance the legal status of women and children; my team members and I will mentor a few chosen Imo State secondary school girls to encourage them and support their future goals. Every parent parent(s) must know this 👇👇👇 ❌Child molestation often happens when a child is entrusted into the hands of loved and trusted family members . ❌ These individuals ride on the wings of trust to molest children . ❌ They initiate innocent and friendly conversation such as sweet name calling (my wife, fyn girl/boy). What must you do: ☑️ You must enlighten them more about their body parts, call these body part by it's name with much emphasis on the private part. Must parents shy away from these, not knowing that what you fail to teach them, they will surely learn it outside probably in a wrong way. ☑️You must warn your kids not to sit on anybody's lap , be it uncle , brother and so on. ☑️ Encourage these kids to always express themselves; this would enable you know any challenge they might be facing. Who runs the world? "Resourcing Girls to Thrive" is a report that reveals adolescent girls (including gender-expansive, non-binary, and transgender youth) are involved in *every* social justice and national liberation in the world. In spite of this, their work is often underfunded.
