The grief associated with death is familiar to most people, but individuals grieve in connection with a variety of losses throughout their lives, such as unemployment, ill health or the end of a relationship. Grief Yoga is a compassionate practice to move through the pain of grief and loss to reconnect with your inner empowerment and love. I’ve started an online course in grief and bereavement counselling. It’s only entry level, but I’m learning so much, such as the different bereavement personas. I’m hoping it will help me better understand and assist clients who are experiencing grief and bereavement. There are a lot of aspects that pair with mindfulness, such as active listening, empathy, genuineness, and being nonjudgmental. But grief is not a wholly emotional experience. What is oftentimes overlooked is the physical experience of grief. I researched the impact of meditation on anxiety and found more positive articles and blog posts than I can list. For example, the Mayo clinic calls meditation, "A simple, fast way to reduce stress." University of Waterloo says it, "... helped reduce social anxiety symptoms and negative feelings." Onepeloton says, "Meditation can be incredibly effective at easing anxiety." And, NIMH (National Institute of Mental Health) says, "... meditation can reduce anxiety symptoms and enhance the effects of psychotherapy." I created a guided meditation to ease the grip of anxiety that includes a breath movement I learned while training with Gay and Kathlyn Hendricks. Below is a link to the intro to that meditation.
