Speaker Bio: Raised by a registered nurse and respiratory therapist, I saw first-hand how hard clinicians work to support their families. My father transitioned to a career as a licensed registered financial advisor and as I witnessed his passion for helping people achieve financial security sparked a similar interest in me. In 2019, I joined his firm, eager to learn the ropes and contribute to the mission. In October 2020, my friend invited me to take advantage of her spacious rental in South Minneapolis because I was working remotely like many of us. As a third-generation LA County resident, I wondered, How cold could it possibly get? Boy, did I find out! It was worth it because six months later, I married the love of my life, Carmen! On Nov 1, 2017 I set out to do something "small" and it turned into something "big." I formalized what is now the Orchestrated Connecting Community I'd built over the prior 1.5 years into what I call a Purposeful Community, and 140 sold-out events later in 10 cities, this is a global community seen as an ethically and outcome-driven network of networks. On Oct 14th (evening) and Oct 15th (full day) in New York City, I'm proud to launch my first Orchestrated Conference focusing on the interaction of AI, Mental Health, Health and Wellness, Sports, Patriotism, and Community in many shapes and forms! There are many ways to hold an amazing conference, and many of my friends do an incredible job with theirs. I just want a different outcome, as I have proven with our more intimate Gatherings. I'm tired of standing in hallways to maximize the value of attending, when what I want is curated conversations with other attendees that aren't speed dating or random, but intentional. I don't want to spend 95% of my time being talked at--- I want to interact, to collaborate and to feel valued for my time. I also want to know what I'm eating before I attend, who is going, and that I have to be fully present for the day in order to be accepted to come. This isn’t a conference with some famous person speaking who draws you in but then leaves out the back door. Finally, I want the outcome of my time to be more than 2-3 hopefully positive, substantial conversations. Honestly I'd like that number to be 10+ and for this conference we're aiming for 25 each person. If you're connected to me, and want to learn more and apply, click the link below, it tells you almost everything. Please write me if you want to apply or nominate someone, and learn more! https://lnkd.in/eEdQce_i

Today we resume our regularly scheduled Member Spotlight snippets that culminate in the full talk towards the end of the month. For the month of November we are featuring Mathias Funke, who co-leads our ACL Berlin Chapter. In this snippet he chats about his first-ever FAP workshop that he attended with Aisling Curtin from Ireland. He recalls the surprising sight of a room full of therapists in tears, all bonding together in this incredibly heartfelt way. This was also when he first heard about Mavis—and the effect she has on folks (even when she's not there ;-)). What about you? Do you recall how you when you first heard about us? And/or when you first heard about Dr. Tsai? What were your thoughts? We'd be delighted if you shared those in the comments below. If what Mathias touches on makes you curious and you'd like to listen to the full talk at the end of the month, we encourage you to consider joining our free ACL Global community; where you'll have access to his talk (as well as all our other featured Member Spotlights). As a member you will discover the heartwarming, inspiring stories behind our community and see why wonderful people like Mathias decided to join us. “It’s not the quantity of the time you spend with your children, but rather, the quality of that time.” I was thinking about this quote this morning after returning with the family from Greece yesterday and packing today for multiple weeks of speaking engagements over the next month. This week, for example, I’ll be speaking for my friends at Philips, then on to INBOUND to speak Friday, and Saturday another keynote at the The Contractor Fight event in Denver. Next week is much of the same. This, of course, means time away from home. I’ve been traveling like this as a speaker for about 13 years. When I got into this business, I knew I’d have to be away from the family quite a bit (it’s not unusual for me to be away 100 nights a year). That said, I wanted to make sure I was able to establish a deep connection with my four kids(now 14, 17, 20, and 23) despite not being home for so many events over the years. To build such relationships, knowing that “quantity” wasn’t always going to be an option, I’ve chosen “quality” and “depth” as a theme of my approach to being a better husband and father. Specifically, here’s what I’ve done to build those special moments and memories: 1. Each of my four children has individually traveled with me to events worldwide. This intensive 1-on-1 time together has created lasting, unforgettable memories. 2. As a family, we go on at least two trips a year to places we’ve never been, always just before the seasonal rush of events when I’m going to be away (like Greece this year). Spending such high-quality time together like this greatly helps offset my upcoming absence. 3. When I’m home, I’m home. Very present, looking for as much “play time” as possible with the family. Although I’m certainly far from perfect as a father, I can say that even though I haven’t always "been there” for every moment, I have built a foundation of memories with my kids that will last forever. And this, for me, is a win. 🙂 PS: Can you guess where this was taken in Greece?

DSO Event Planners I got a question for you. What are you doing to ensure that your attendees have a positive, safe experience at your event? People are super excited to attend live events again. It’s great to feel that buzz and energy from the conference floor, right? Bringing people together sparks creativity and innovation for sure. Thing is, not everyone is ready to interact post-pandemic. People lost some of their social skills. They forgot how to interact causing disputes, hurt feelings and more. Some incidents rise to the level of harassment or discrimination. I noticed that a few conferences feature a code of conduct agreement as part of their registration process. A good reminder that sets expectations, but ultimately can’t help address the in-real time issues nor those that pop up post-event. Your on the ground team is busy with logistics and managing. So who can attendee go to for help??? Your conference Ombuds, that’s who! Your conference Ombuds provides a safe space for attendees to share concerns around free speech, harassment, integrity and more. For you, your Ombuds provides insights from attendees that you probably couldn’t get otherwise because, unlike a feedback survey, your Ombuds can ask clarifying questions and probe tangential issues. It’s clear from a recent poll that attendee in the #DSO space are being selective about which large events to attend. If you want to be know as having a safe, welcoming experience, then we should talk about my Conference Ombuds services for 2025 and beyond. I only do a few conferences a year because I’m serving my DSO clients. Wanna learn more? Book a call (link in comments)

Thank you, and a post full of gratitude doesn't do enough to begin to describe how much everyone's attendance meant to our team last week. At the CAAR office, we are looking at the convention as a kickoff, and based on your responses, the feeling is mutual. The new CAAR is out of the gate with incredible sponsors, networking, education, and more advocacy work to come. Those of you in attendance heard it several times, for those of you who are attending next years conference... HERE IS WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU: 1) We value your time, and energy - when we send an email it will be full of important information. Please take time to open and engage with us. This is how we build our voice, and ensure YOU are heard. - ensure you are an up to date/active member - ensure we have your correct email IF you haven't seen something from us lately 2) Call, email, or walk up and shake our hand at events. We are your member based organization. Retailer, supplier, and everyone else that's involved. We are here to be of service to you, and we hate guessing. Tell us what you need, and we will work to build out solutions. 3) Planning has begun for next convention, we will announce dates and plans to build off the momentum. Watch for our announcements, share them with your network, and help us make this member driven organization a powerful voice that "Empowers an Industry". Here is an in person thank you from Myrna Grahn, watch for her updates from Ottawa and Markham next week as we continue #CAARinAction.

It's #conferenceszn for many of us in the #highered industry! This is the time of year we post about our #learnings, sharing and exchanging knowledge, making new connections, etc... But, I want to talk about #conferencebuddies, yes! A conference buddy is a person for whom you may only see once a year at a given conference, but catch up immediately where you left off. A conference buddy requires little to no maintenance, a shared understanding at we are all busy doing our things throughout the year. There is no expectation that we catch up on a regular basis, but rather, leverage the short time to catch up, laugh, and learn. We all have that small handful of people that we can count on at a particular conference to be our conference buddy. So, to all my conference buddies out there: thanks for honouring realistic expectations on work-life time demands and for always being up for a reconnect and a laugh. #youknowwhoyouare
