I was shared an Are.na board of studio bios and positioning last week. https://lnkd.in/eBWXMdfC Super interesting to see a generally homogenous landscape of very serious positioning statements! As an industry, we really do appear in the copy to take ourselves so very seriously. There are definitely some exceptions that are strategically brilliant in this selection but what shook me from this curation was the very clinical tone we have as creatives. What I'm asking is – where has the creative fun gone? The unique personality? I know often the work is the USP of the studio - but why not twin it with a distinct position on what you stand for and your philosophical approach to creative work as a whole?

Great advice from an inspiring team, helpful for any designer at any stage of their career! Finding my design style has been an ever-evolving journey shaped by early inspirations from sculpture artists and architecture. I’ve always been curious about how graphic design and branding can be pushed beyond traditional boundaries, explored through new mediums, and integrated into physical spaces, digital experiences, typographic explorations, or connective brand elements. My partner came to me distraught the other day and wanted to ask me about being consistent. She's the editor in chief and primary author of a local magazine about art in Philly called AMAT. She has subscribers who pay for the magazine to be delivered to their homes. She's basically crushing it. But she was upset. She was worried that she's not publishing frequently enough. She said "Rhoen, it's hard living with you when you're so consistent! You publish to your Substack every month. You publish to LinkedIn every day. You're literally writing a book, about being consistent! How do you do it! It's intimidating living with you!" My reaction was that it was an unfair comparison. You can't compare your own work and processes to other people. Her writing process is completely different from mine. She had described to me that she needs about a month to actually process and synthesize the art before she can start writing. The type of art critique she does isn't about an instant reaction to an experience, it's about explaining the impact and significance that art has over time. And it takes time to process those ideas and feelings. And that's not to mention that she literally prints and mails the magazine to her subscribers in addition to posting online. That's a whole entire process that I've never had to think about with my writing. The lesson from this story, in my opinion, is to be more generous with yourself. You really don't know the struggles or ease that other people go through to have the output that they do. You only see the results. So focus on your own results. Go at your own pace. Be hell bent on quality. And don't get distracted by the perceived success of others. Who knows, they might be thinking the same thing about you! Do those things, and over time, you'll see the consistency start to build. The other thing I told her is that giving up on something you care about is never an option. Submission Checklist: 🎯Step 1: Draft it once and believe it’s perfect. 🎯Step 2: Realise it could be clearer and revise it at least 27 times. 🎯Step 3: Spend an hour debating whether "impactful" or "substantial" has more... well, impact. 🎯Step 4: Format, reformat, then format again, only to find one rogue font size. 🎯Step 5: Finally submit it and cross your fingers that this is the year it’s flawless. At schnyder360, we’re here to make Steps 1-5 a lot easier (and a lot fewer)! Because legal submissions can seem tedious, but they don’t have to be torture (that is open for discussion...).

I'm moving this weekend 📦 📦 📦 And I've stumbled upon some of the most unexpected insights related to legal docs redesign 📃 ! Packing up my belongings has made me realize just how much we can learn from the process. 💡 You know, packing boxes, making sure you've got everything you need, and labeling them so you can find stuff later 🚛🏡 Well, it's exactly how we should think about legal documents. Writing to ensure readers on the other side can find exactly what they need. But it's not always that simple.📜🫣 You think everything's in the right place, but when you look more closely at your doc, you will notice that important bits are scattered around, things are hard to find, and sometimes, texts placed in different sections even seem contradict each other.😵💫 And it’s makes your users feel like this: 🤷🏻♀️💭 So, when you're working on a legal document, it's not just about neatly organizing it into sections and adding cross-references. It’s like packing everything into boxes 📦 It's about bringing everything together in a way that makes sense for people on the other end to find what they need! 🔍 Switly! ⏩😄 So instead of shouting with caps lock - which just makes it harder to read - put the Clause In a box and highlight the section or so it stands out. 💪 Just like you would add "Fragile" on a box to handle with care when you move! And add an icons to grab attention! After all, an image is worth a 1000 words 🖼️ Think of legal document redesign as packing for a move—gather everything, label it clearly, and handle it with care. It feels like the term “storytelling” has taken over much of our vocabulary, shaping how we talk about the work we do. While storytelling paints a vivid picture, it can also feel too specific—focused on linear narratives—leaving little room for the more abstract, intangible act of creating form. Meanwhile, the word “content” has been heavily commodified, especially in digital spaces. Too often, it’s reduced to metrics—likes, clicks, impressions—stripping away deeper meaning. Paul Rand’s perspective offers a refreshing counterpoint. He reminds us that content and form must coexist. Content gives purpose to form, and form brings content to life.
