The UK Semiconductor Institute is launching to connect industry, academia, and the government. This institute will serve as a 'single point of contact,' bringing in specialist skills, tools, infrastructure, and market readiness support. It aims to advance the UK semiconductor strategy, which promises up to £1bn funding over the next decade. Launching this autumn, the institute aims to unify the sector, focusing on areas where the UK can lead globally, such as advanced materials and innovative semiconductor manufacturing. Industry leaders, including the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology's Semiconductor Advisory Panel and trade association techUK, have welcomed this move. We welcome today’s announcement from the Department of Science, Innovation and Technology of a brand new independent UK Semiconductor Institute being set up to support key components of the Government’s £1bn Semiconductor Strategy. 💡 Amelia Armour, a Partner on Amadeus’ Early Stage team, is one of the industry leaders advising the Government on what can be done to help the UK’s semiconductor sector flourish. 📌 Today, DSIT announced plans for a new independent UK Semiconductor Institute to support the sector. This new institute will bring together key stakeholders in Government, industry and academia to promote innovation and investment. The UK Semiconductor Institute will align its support to the key areas and goals of the National Strategy. This new institute followed extensive industry engagement, including with the Chips Coalition as the voice for the UK Semiconductor Industry. From this week on, ChipNL Competence Center - a collaboration between Brainport Development and 6 other partners - is part of the European network of Competence Centers and will act as the national hub for research, development and cooperation between industry, government and knowledge institutions. All CCs are part of the #European #Chips #Act and contribute to accelerating innovation and technological solutions, stimulating talent development and strengthening the European value chain in #semiconductors. The Dutch hub focuses in particular on supporting and connecting parts of the value chains with Dutch SMEs, start- and scale-ups in the semiconductor sector and related application markets with a focus on semiconductor manufacturing equipment, chip design, (integrated) photonics, quantum and heterogeneous integration.
