Collaborative Leadership Styles Leadership would emphasize collaboration over competition, fostering a culture of mutual respect and shared success. 2. Equitable Growth Opportunities True gender equality means removing barriers to advancement. We’d see fair pay, unbiased promotion paths, and mentorship programs that uplift all genders. 3. Health & Wellbeing Focus Women understand the importance of holistic well-being. Workplaces would prioritize mental and physical health, including support for challenges like menopause, ensuring that all employees can thrive at every stage of life. 4. Empathy as a Core Value Women bring more empathy and emotional intelligence to leadership, creating environments where everyone feels heard and valued. Today, we honor and celebrate the strength, resilience, and achievements of women around the world. As a counselor and social worker, I am particularly passionate about recognizing the pivotal role that women play in society and addressing the crucial aspects of their mental health. Empowerment of women goes beyond mere acknowledgment, it involves fostering an environment that supports their growth, amplifies their voices, and ensures equal opportunities. Mental health, an integral part of overall well-being, is an area that requires special attention. Women often juggle multiple roles and responsibilities, and it's essential to create spaces that prioritize their mental health. Let's work together to break the stigma surrounding mental health, encourage open conversations, and provide the necessary resources for women to thrive emotionally and mentally. When we invest in women's mental health, we invest in the well-being of families, communities, and society as a whole. ✨On International Women's Day this year, I'm focused more on the journey ahead than the accomplishments to date✨ When it comes to the position of women at work and in society, frankly, I'm feeling fired up. 🔥Women are still underrepresented at all levels of organizations, public and private 🔥Women, especially women of color, continue to experience high levels of microaggressions, bullying and discrimination in the workplace 🔥Women earn less than men for the same work in every country on the planet and the gap has changed minimally in the last decade 🔥Women experience far higher rates of burnout, with 42% of women currently experiencing workplace burnout compared to 30% of men I'm focusing on the workplace issues in this post, but want to also acknowledge the violence, discrimination and other abuses of basic human rights towards women more broadly in every country around the world. My IWD reminder to you is this: we cannot achieve justice and equity if we are in burnout. This is a call to you to take fierce care of your own wellbeing so that you can contribute to the collective action it will take to reach these goals. 🌍 This International Women's Day, a Personal Revelation 🌍 Seeing my wife Paula Jiménez become a mother opened my eyes to International Women's Day in ways I didn't expect. It hit me – my mother, my wife, and working mums everywhere aren't just balancing jobs and families; they're showing us what real leadership looks like, every single day. 🚀👩👧👦 But here's the thing: cheering from the sidelines once a year isn't enough. The challenges these incredible women face – from workplace policies that don't fit their needs to societal pressures – call for all leaders to step up and make changes. Let's use today to start pushing for workplaces that truly support working mums to excel. Whether it's flexible hours and reliable childcare, or better yet, a 1:1 conversation about what they personally need to excel - every one of us is different, why can't mums be too?! 🛠️💼 My wife's experience was more than just eye-opening; it was a call to action. 🌟 Empowering Women, Transforming Lives: Celebrating International Women's Day 2024! 🌟 As a leader in mental health, I am deeply passionate about the well-being and empowerment of women every day, but today feels like a good time to climb back onto my soap box, which I seem to be doing with increasing frequency lately 😀 This coming International Women's Day, we will embrace the powerful themes of "Inspire Inclusion" and "Invest in Women" to foster a world where every woman feels valued, heard, and supported. I work with incredible people every single day, a good proportion of our team is made up of women from a very diverse range of cultural backgrounds. They recognise the critical role mental health plays in women's lives. From navigating societal expectations to managing career aspirations and personal responsibilities, women often face unique challenges that impact their mental well-being. I believe that investing in women's mental health is not only a moral imperative but also a strategic priority for building stronger, healthier communities, organisations and businesses. When we flourish through kindness and compassion, we're inspiring kids like this one to do the same. This little blonde firecracker happens to be my 11 year old, who honestly drives me up the wall, (particularly on World Book Day) but who will always be my why. The question is, when we hand them the baton, what are we handing them? Dear business world, thank you for all the messages, campaigns, events, and initiatives today to celebrate women and their contributions across industry sectors! It feels great to be a woman on International Women's Day! But what we really need is, ✅️ Equal opportunities when hiring or promoting and equal pay. ✅️ Women's active involvement (not just representation) in research, policy making, decision making, and execution for every industry sector and field. ✅️ More research on women's health and incorporating findings at the workplace. ✅️ Understanding women's role in their personal lives as mothers, daughters, etc. and creating supportive culture at the workplace. Motherhood isn't a one year job to conclude it by providing feeding rooms and maternity leaves. ✅️ If you are hiring us to increase the organization's gender ration to show progress on your annual sustainability report, then don't just give us a physical seat at the table but accept our active contributions, too. ✅️ What our world needs is collective mindset change to remove double standards and personal, cultural biases around women and their ambitions, capabilities, and their role in our society. #women in our trube, what more will you add to this list? Celebrating International Women's Day! 🌼 Today, let's acknowledge the incredible strength and resilience of women in the workplace. Organisations play a crucial role in fostering an inclusive environment that understands and supports challenges faced by women (whilst also recognising these don’t only affect women). From navigating infertility and baby loss to managing menopause, acknowledging these aspects contributes to a more compassionate workplace, and putting support processes in place enables employees to thrive in their role. Yesterday I ran a training session with Marie Curie employees, talking about coping through challenging life events, and supporting your colleagues. Writing the training really got me thinking about how it is so important to understand how it impacts those going through it, so you can empathise and support them in a way that is right for them. Embracing inclusiveness reduces bias and discrimination, empowering women to thrive.
