If Africa must connect and tap the potential of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat we all have to put hands on deck. We need to proactively want to make things work. When Africans still require visas to visit other neighbouring African countries when other economic blocks have developed borderless countries, I think there's a lot still to be done. Off course emigration and immigration has it's own security challenges but we will never know if we don't try. A borderless Africa is possible.

It should be possible to obtain agreements with third countries for the expulsion of foreigners whose right to asylum has been rejected and OQTF, not asylum seekers, when the countries of origin do not want to take them back. Visa issuance should be negotiated with these countries. Once there, these foreigners could be allowed to return to their country of origine through the country of transit. For example, making an agreement with an African country for Algerians that Algeria currently refuses to take back by using irregular immigration as a diplomatic weapon. There would be no need to establish hubs.

The US ambassador to Liberia, Mark C. Toner, has stated that over 50% of Liberians who travel to the US on tourist visas overstay, leading to a high rate of visa denials. Toner says the issue is not targeted against Liberians but is part of US immigration policies and border control measures. According to the US Department of State's list of countries with the highest visa rejection rates for the 2023-2024 period, Liberia has been ranked fourth globally and top of the list within Africa.Other African countries whose citizens have experienced the highest rejection rates include Mauritania, Rwanda, and Senegal. What needs to be done to ensure that individuals who have legitimate reasons to visit the US are not affected by such situations? #DWAfrica

All travelers must demonstrate compliance with entry requirements upon arrival. Reports of Indian nationals being turned back at Montreal airport prompted this clarification. CBSA also emphasized that they do not direct travelers to make refugee claims. Each entry is assessed individually, ensuring proper adherence to immigration laws and regulations. More than HALF the population of the GCC region is foreign born – a level that rises to nearly 88 percent in Qatar. Yet countries’ immigration rules are generally restrictive and have been accused of infringing basic human rights. The systems prevent many migrants from switching jobs or even leaving the country if they don’t have their sponsor’s consent. Now, as governments plot the course to a new economic future, they are also trying to shake up their migration regimes. Gradually, doors are opening—but for whom? Get up to speed on the region’s inflection point with our new article.

An insightful piece about the viability of ASEAN’s ‘Schengen Visa’ 💡💯 As discussions progress, it will be fascinating to see how these ASEAN countries balance their individual policy goals (labor, economic, political, etc.) with the potential benefits of increased regional integration. In recent months, much has been made of Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin’s proposal for a six-nation regional visa, which has perhaps drawn premature comparisons to the much more established Schengen Area visa in Europe. The proposal would see a joint visa program between the nations that make up Mainland Southeast Asia. In this blog post by Partners Kenneth Lau and Aim-on Larpisal and Director Khalisha Sharifah, we explore the proposal, the different perspectives of countries involved and the barriers that could prevent such a visa from being fully implemented: https://bit.ly/3Lm1Qsl #SoutheastAsia #Immigration #ASEAN #Thailand #Vietnam #Malaysia #GlobalMobility #APAC
