💚 30 Years of FareShare: Fighting Hunger and Food Waste Across the UK 💚 This November, INTX is joining FareShare’s 30th-anniversary celebrations with a fitness challenge to honour the vital work they do every day. Earlier this year, we took part in their "Miles for Meals" challenge, and now, we’re excited to be taking part in their birthday campaign to bring more meals to people who need them. Here’s why we’re so inspired by FareShare’s work: 🌍 Impacting Over 1 Million Lives FareShare supports over 8,500 charities and community groups across 34 UK sites, ensuring surplus food reaches those who need it most. In the 2022 - 2023 year alone, they provided 128 million meals—that’s 4 meals every second! 🥗 More Than a Meal FareShare’s food donations help communities beyond nutrition. 81% of charities report improved mental health among those they serve, and 86% say their service users feel less isolated. With 93% of users saving money on food, more families can spend on essentials, reducing financial strain. 🍎 Rising Need, Unprecedented Demand With 13 million people in food insecurity as of January 2023 and 22% of the UK living in relative poverty, FareShare’s role has never been more critical. Nearly 90% of their partner charities report increased demand, with 70% seeing new people, often families with children and seeking help for the first time. FareShare’s mission is simple but powerful: No good food should go to waste while people go hungry. Their work brings dignity and hope, tackling not just the effects of poverty but also reducing 3 million tonnes of potential food waste in the UK, which would otherwise contribute to greenhouse gas emissions. Let’s make every step and minute of our fitness challenge count! Together, we’re helping FareShare continue their incredible journey of impact. 🚨 Hunger in Our Community is Growing 🚨 The Food Bank of Waterloo Region has been an essential pillar in their community, ensuring that their neighbours don’t go hungry. Through vital partnerships with local businesses and community members, they turn local generosity into life-saving meals. 💛 Thanks to a $5,000 donation from Forbes Motors GM the Food Bank can continue bridging the gap for those who need it most—filling inventory shortages, supporting dietary and cultural needs, keeping trucks on the road, and empowering 120+ local agencies and programs in the Community Food Assistance Network. But here’s the heartbreaking reality: hunger is hitting our communities harder than ever. 📈 By the Numbers: 🍽 Every $1 donated provides 2 meals for someone in need 👶 35% of those relying on assistance are children—about 20,500 kids 🏠 1 in 10 households in Waterloo Region struggle to put food on the table. Just two years ago, that number was 1 in 20 🚨 58,600 people are using emergency food programs—an increase of 45% in just a year. This surge is unprecedented. Families, children, seniors—our neighbors—are facing hunger like never before. Together, we can turn this around – while Food Banks are leading the charge, we all have a role to play. No one should go hungry in a community as vibrant and compassionate as Waterloo. Let’s come together, donate, and make a difference. 👉 Join us today in supporting the Food Bank’s mission. As most event organizers know, food allocation can be a balancing act. While we always aim to ensure every guest is well-fed, there’s often a surplus at the end of the event. In today’s world, where food waste is a pressing issue, it’s more important than ever to find ways to make a positive impact with what’s left. At our recent event that we hosted with MIDLANDS AEROSPACE ALLIANCE, we were thrilled to donate leftover pork baps to a local charity. This small act of kindness not only helped reduce waste but also provided a meaningful contribution to those in need within our community. We encourage other event organizers to consider doing the same. Partnering with local charities or food banks is a straightforward and impactful way to ensure that surplus food doesn’t go to waste. Together, we can create a ripple effect of generosity while addressing the significant issues in our communities. #sustainableevents #charity #charitysupport #community #support #communitysupport #donatefood #team #help

You make a difference…👍❤️ We believe that every act of kindness has a ripple effect, and you can make a difference by donating your old and unwanted furniture and white goods. Your generosity can transform lives within our community by providing comfort and dignity to those who need it most. Imagine a family in crisis moving into a house with nothing but bare walls. Your donated sofa could become their cosy spot for family cuddles. That donated dining table means that they don’t need to eat on the floor. They can share meals and create memories. 💕 By giving, we can create a safety net that catches those who are falling and lift them up. Donating isn't just about things; it's about people. Your act of kindness not only helps others but also connects you to fellow community members. Together, we can build a stronger, more compassionate community. If you have items to donate, consider KFR. We collect furniture and white goods free of charge from households across Wiltshire and Swindon, and your contribution matters. Please share our mission with friends, family, and neighbours. Each Christmas we select a great cause to support and this year we chose FareShare UK. FareShare strengthens communities by distributing surplus food to local charities that turn it into meals. The food they redistribute, which is nutritious and good to eat, reaches charities across the UK, including school breakfast clubs, older people’s lunch clubs, homeless shelters and community cafes. Every week, they provide enough food to create almost a million meals for vulnerable people. Those meals also help our environment because the surplus food would otherwise have gone to waste. For every tonne of surplus food FareShare redistributes, it prevents the waste of 2 tonnes of CO2e and 2.66 million litres of water. The meals also help reduce the stigma of needing support. They are currently raising money for their Winter Campaign. You can learn more and make a donation here: https://fareshare.org.uk/ #fareshare #giving #fighthunger

As a parent, I'm acutely aware of the cost of caring for kids, including the cost of giving them gifts at Christmas (my favourite holiday celebration!) I'm also acutely aware of the amount of waste holiday celebrations can create if businesses, government and charities don't collaborate to support the circular economy. That's why I am a long time supporter of Good360 Australia. The current cost of living crisis means more families than ever are not able to afford essential hygiene items, let alone give each other gifts at Christmas this year. In light of this and in response to demand from our charity partners, Good360 has initiated a toy drive this Christmas so you can donate to give families the ability to choose and give a gift to their kids, and divert brand new unused toys (or other essential items!) from landfill. You can do that here: https://lnkd.in/gbUribGu. If you have limited capacity to give this Christmas, I encourage you to do it via Good360. I strongly believe in what Good360 does - its a truly innovative technology platform that gives charities choice and businesses a solution. We are incredibly efficient (only 5c of every $1 goes to covering our fundraising costs), effective (every $1 donated gives $20 of essential items or toys to families in need), and a (not for profit!) linchpin of the circular economy.

August 2024 Impact Report This month, our Community Food Pantry has made a significant difference in the lives of our community members. We provided 334 food relief hampers to households in need, supporting over 1,275 individuals with more than 7,650 meals. Our Backpack Buddies program continues to bridge the weekend hunger gap for 120 children experiencing food insecurity, delivering over 3,248 meals to them and their families through local schools. In addition to providing essential meals, we also rescued over 3,250kg of food from landfill, helping to reduce waste and ensure more people have access to nutritious food. "This service has helped me and my children's wellbeing and livelihood become stable. It's taken us from struggling to secure." (Community Food Pantry Client) These numbers are a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by many in our community. According to a recent Finder report, more than half of Australians are running out of money before their next payday. The data reveals: 📝 6% run out of money every month, by an average of $249. 📝 Women are almost twice as likely as men to struggle, at 20% compared to 11%. 📝 69% of those struggling cite the soaring cost of living as the main pressure, while 40% attribute it to unexpected expenses. We understand the financial pressures many face, and we're here to help—no judgment, just support. Together, we can continue to uplift our community and provide the assistance needed during these tough times. If you'd like to support our work, consider donating or holding a food or fund drive. If you've read our Impact Report, you'll know that last year we donated an incredible £20,000 for charity. A part of that comes from the four charities we choose to support each year. Here's how it works: whenever a new member joins us, we donate £5 on their behalf to one of the four charities we're supporting for that year. These are this year’s amazing charities: 🌟 Rainforest Action Network: Works to protect rainforests and the rights of their inhabitants through campaigns and grassroots organizing. 🌟 Beam: an award winning Tech for Good start-up and crowdfunding platform supporting homeless people and refugees into stable jobs and homes. 🌟 Doctors Without Borders: Provides medical assistance to people affected by conflict, epidemics, disasters, or exclusion from healthcare worldwide. 🌟 FoodCycle: Combats food waste and food poverty by serving meals made from surplus food to those in need. We’re super proud to support these organisations. If you want to find out more about our sustainability goals, click here 👉 https://bit.ly/3V6Qo89
