Last week I learnt what a 360 deal in the music industry is. This strategic move grants record labels a stake in earnings from an artist's multiple revenue streams, including music. Streams like touring, merchandise, and other ventures. Then I wondered why established superstars like Madonna, Jay-Z or Bruno Mars would want to do a deal like this when they have unlimited options at their fingertips. Turns out there are still quite a few reasons: Shared risk, shared reward: by aligning their interests, both parties take calculated bets and benefit from the success together. Leveraging expertise: the label's resources and experience can enhance operations, from touring logistics to merchandise distribution and new venture developments. Long-term commitment: a 360 deal signals a commitment to a long-lasting relationship, fostering trust and collaboration. What can businesses learn from this? Strong partnerships are key: no matter how big you get, finding strong partners who share your vision and values can still be essential. Align interests: make sure everyone benefits from the partnership. Leverage each other's strengths: playing to your strengths means all parties can potentially achieve better results than possible alone. And I'm sure there can also be an element of loyalty, where some parties are always looking out for what's best for them and them alone, while others care about continuing to grow and succeed with the OGs who were there from the beginning.
