You’d like to think the governments of Ireland and the UK would question the current strategy for rural internet rollout and acknowledge their may already be a solution in the sky vs digging up the roads to lay cables and spending ridiculous amounts for minimal actual connection. From the Budget today: ‘Under-served parts of Northern Ireland will benefit from the rollout of digital infrastructure enabled by over £500 million of UK-wide investment in Project Gigabit and the Shared Rural Network.’ . The solutions already there, just make a deal!?

Last week in Dublin, we hosted a roundtable discussion as part of our Let’s Build Green and Elevate campaign under the SMARTER4EU project. The event brought together 20 representatives from the public and private sectors to discuss how to jointly cooperate on development of hybrid funding schemes for affordable housing. Our discussion, Green, Healthy, and Affordable Housing for All, included international guests from Ukraine, Portugal, Belgium, and Ireland, with contributions from financial institutions and municipal representatives. During the event, municipal representatives pledged their readiness to embed green standards to their affordable housing projects. We’re inspired by the commitments made to drive greener, healthier, and more affordable housing, and we’re excited to continue this work with our partners. I wonder how many Public Private partnerships studied are up to 95% state funded and yet 100% owned by the private partner? Regarding the NBP being on time I can’t help but wonder which timelines he is referring to ? Are they the original timelines or the new relaxed timelines re-negotiated after the project launched? Regarding budget, a bit of Informed perspective is needed here, the budget per premises (€5,500) is over 3x of the European Average (€1,759 per premises) and the highest in Europe. The cost per premises is 39% more expensive than the second most expensive EU project (€3,998). these figures are a testament to what budget One can secure if one is let win a 1 horse race. The project Intervention Area  and the mapping process as conducted by the Department Officials is an unfair overbuild of independent SME FWA ISPs.
