Wales to Benefit for First Time from £800m Programme to Roll Out Lightning-Fast Broadband Around £170 million in UK Government Investments (UKGI) investment will be made available to deliver top-of-the-range ‘gigabit-capable’ broadband for around 70,000 hard-to-reach premises in Wales, as figures show it records the lowest levels of gigabit connectivity in Great Britain. It will apply to some of the most remote parts of the country from the South Wales Valleys to the Llyn Peninsula. Could it be that the regulatory environment is finally shifting to recognise the importance of vital telecommunications infrastructure? A recent dealing with a Council suggests a disconnect remains. I know this isn't an isolated case. Here's hoping moves like this increase awareness and continue to change perceptions.

According to Stratbase, National Building Code amendment should encompass both the commercial and public sectors, as well as give internet service providers with ample area to construct fiber optic cables and equipment to enable Filipinos gain access to the internet faster. "Broadband internet connectivity has emerged as one of the most basic needs in today's world. It only follows that property development, both in the public and private sectors, should provide the internet service providers access to adequate space to install the necessary fiber optic cables and equipment that would deliver services to tenants and occupants," said Stratbase ADR Institute head Victor Andres Manhit. "This will free up resources that can be spent on the improvement and expansion of broadband services. This will also send a clear message that the government is determined to transform the country into a globally competitive digital economy," he added. https://lnkd.in/gSYKnPGv

This is a great piece in The Tech Capital focused on the success Ireland has had growing its economy thanks to digital infrastructure, but also demonstrating why Ireland can continue to be a leader in this space. Much is made about the regulations in Ireland being a barrier, but there are positives to some regulations as it means Ireland will be ahead of the curve of other European nations that must bring forward policies focused on improve decarbonisation. This quote stood out to me - "with Ireland moving to support 80% renewables on the power grid by 2030, the country is still firmly positioned to be at the intersection of two of the biggest trends we face today – digitalisation and decarbonisation." Having attended the recent Host in Ireland event in Cannes for DataCloud it was great to see the positivity around regarding not just the future in Ireland, but the impact Ireland has on the wider sphere of digital infrastructure across EMEA. #datacentres #ireland #digitalinfrastructure
