Just spent a few hours at the Investor Day of EPFL in Lausanne. What a dynamic event! Just the right mixture between pitches, 1to1 meetings, company booths and - thankfully - just one panel (but with great speakers such as Patrick Aebischer of ND+ or Emile de Rijk, CEO of Swissto12 SA). The ecosystem is alive and well on the founding part of the "startup assembly chain". The energy and the enthusiasm of founders is palpable. It is toward the end of the line that we have an issue: not enough good exits (defined as a multiple of 10 or more for early investors). This is where we have to focus our efforts, as this will alleviate many other liquidity related issues of the ecosystem. Getting on the radar of potential acquirers early is a must. That means that startups have to be active in the US and SE Asia, at the very least by attending conferences and trade shows. Being more result oriented and driving for higher valuation interim rounds also will help. As we wrap up 2024, we at least know what we need to work on next year!

At the end of March, RESI South 2024 will convene in Atlanta and is expected to bring together more than 500 bioscience and medtech entrepreneurs with premier investors, family offices, and key executives.
