IMPACT BBDO hosted an online guide session for the 2025 See It Be It program at Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity last week. Open to all women from the MENAP region, the session covered tips on how to write an effective submission and a general overview of the programme. Featuring in the session were three previous SIBI participants Atiya Zaidi, Hira Mohibullah and Huma Mobin, alongside the Head of Advancing Equitable Access, LIONS, Laura Brown. Also presenting was our CCO Ali Rez. Since 2014, SIBI has been inviting up to 20 creatives from around the world to Cannes Lions for a four-day learning programme. During these four days, participants are equipped with tools that’ll help their career progression – including mentorship, masterclasses with industry leaders, backstage access and sessions tailored towards each person’s goals. An experience like no other 🥹✨ A huge thank you to The Women's Association, McCann London, and Digitas UK for selecting me to be a part of this life-changing trip. As a young, neurodiverse Black founder from Newham, this opportunity meant the world to me 🧡 Attending the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, with most of my expenses covered, gave me access to panels, places, and people that I wouldn’t have been able to reach otherwise. It was a chance to learn, connect, and grow in ways that continue to shape my journey as a founder 🌱💡 I left Cannes with a renewed sense of purpose, a revitalised spirit, and an even deeper drive to help brands build authentic relationships with their consumers, particularly those from diverse backgrounds 🌍 It’s now a must-attend for me moving forward, and I’d love the chance to be there again next year—this time as a speaker (God willing) 🎤 If you’re planning any talks on neurodiversity or strategies for engaging with Gen Z or the "culture" I’d love to be considered. My experience as a member of the Gen Z audience occupying the spaces brands seek to enter and working with talent gives me a fresh perspective on how brands can authentically connect with this demographic. 🔥 That's a wrap! 🔥 Year 2 of The Cannes Challenge has come to an end, and we couldn't be prouder of everything we've accomplished together with Deborah B. Williams, her team at The Women's Association and Digitas UK during this period. The programme has provided a much needed platform for early female talent in the creative industry, giving them access to leaders, mentors, and the inspiration they need to thrive in their career. Deborah has brilliantly led the way, helping the women get support via mentorship in partnership with the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity “See it Be It” programme, to getting access to creative leaders across our industry. Together we've helped open doors for women at the early stages of their career in the creative industry which we believe will help them make their dreams a reality. Inclusivity is about every consideration of accessibility and opportunity for the underserved. Thank you Channing Martin and Interpublic Group (IPG) for an enlightening conversation at IPG's Common Ground at Carlton Cannes during the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. Personally, this partnership and conversation was very important for me and I appreciate the opportunity to share how we can make a difference at Hero Media Inc. I've been on every side of the marketing, advertising and creative industries for 20 years, spent in at least 6 different roles, with various insight, responsibility and perspective. Norms, trends, technology, terminology... So much has changed and is constantly changing, and that's why thinking holistically about inclusion is so important in order to get modern day marketing and advertising right. Every year, I go into Cannes a bit cynical, questioning whether it is all a bit performative. This year, however, I had a very different experience. Sure, there were certainly still aspects that were more spectacle than substance, but on the whole, I was inspired – by the work, by the camaraderie, and by the emphasis on true #creativity. For every benign, redundant mention of AI, there was an impassioned case made for the power of originality and unexpected creativity. I might have expected this from creative agencies, but I was most encouraged by the championing of creativity from the esteemed panel of CMO’s at Forbes' Most Influential CMO Luncheon. Perhaps, we are collectively over the seduction of predictability and (faux) certainty. Perhaps, we are all realizing the diminishing returns of relentlessly pursued risk mitigation. Perhaps, the extremes of either dull sameness or shallow gimmicks will yield to smart, beautiful, big, bold, important ideas that build real brands and drive real business and if we are lucky, move society forward along the way. I left Cannes feeling the renaissance has begun and that TBWA is exactly the right place to be for it, where Disruption is not a catchphrase, but an essence and a mandate. My optimism was a direct result of spending time with Kyle Chayka, Lucia Aniello, Ben Tallon, Flau’jae Johnson, Beatrice Domond, Seth Matlins, The amazing women hosted by The Female Quotient, our ambitious clients, and my fellow Pirates. As my partner Bruno Regalo says, a new season starts now – so may we all contribute to the renaissance and show up in Cannes next year with work that makes us proud.
