And what did we learn from this and who is writing on it? It was another failure of both diplomacy and in the inability to be effective in our relationship. The weight of effort was on CT, and yet what we did in relation to Niger itself was not valuable enough to keep the US around. CT can only be a pillar of a house and not the house, for it is not long term focused on a wider set of issues. New leadership is badly needed that understands how the DOD and USD can do far more than what we have been doing -- and to stop repeating the same mistakes. https://lnkd.in/eVzEhPbv

🌍 The recent assassinations of Ismail Haniyeh in Qatar and Fuad Shukr in Beirut have reignited a global debate on the ethics and effectiveness of targeted killings in conflict resolution. As professionals navigating an increasingly complex world, it's crucial to reflect on the broader implications of such actions. 🔍 Historically, targeted assassinations have played pivotal roles in altering the course of conflicts and even political systems. From the killing of Osama bin Laden to the demise of ISIS leaders, these actions have often led to significant, albeit controversial, shifts in power dynamics and terrorist activities. 📚 Drawing parallels from history, the Torah's teachings in Parshat Mattot discuss the necessity of confronting evil to preserve justice and moral integrity. This ancient wisdom underscores the challenging decisions leaders must make to secure peace and stability. 💡 As we witness unfolding events and their repercussions on global peace and security, let us engage in thoughtful discussions on the balance between justice and ethical conduct in modern warfare. How do we, as a global community, respond to aggression while upholding our values? #Leadership #EthicsInWarfare #GlobalPolitics #PeaceAndSecurity

Kwame Nkrumah, the first President of Ghana the first sub-Saharan country to get independence in 1957, wrote a book titled "Neocolonialism: The Last Stage of Imperialism" in 1965 where he discussed the concept of neocolonialism and its implications for Africa. Nkrumah argued that neocolonialism, which he saw as a continuation of colonial control through economic and political means, posed a significant threat to Africa's progress and development. He believed that external powers, particularly Western nations, were using economic and political influence to maintain control over African countries even after their formal independence. He was eventually overthrown in a coup d'état in 1966 for his views. The circumstances leading to his overthrow were complex and involved various factors, including political opposition, economic challenges, and concerns about his leadership style. Nkrumah's ideas continue to be influential in African political thought and the discourse on decolonisation, Pan-Africanism, and economic self-reliance. His writings and Activism played a significant role in shaping the aspirations and ideologies of African leaders and intellectuals during the post-colonial period. In the wake of the Senegalese Ibrahim Traore and the other Sahel countries coming together, how can Africa ring-fence herself against the hegemonic and oligarchal nature of capitalism and neo colonialism? Africa should consider the following trajectory. 1. Economic integration and self-reliance Strengthen regional economic communities like the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) to promote intra-African trade and reduce dependence on external powers. 2. Diversify trade partners Engage with emerging economies like China, India, and Brazil to reduce reliance on traditional Western partners. 3. Invest in local industries Promote industrialization and support local businesses to reduce reliance on foreign capital and expertise. 4. Build strong institutions Establish robust democratic institutions, ensure good governance, and combat corruption to prevent external manipulation. 5. Foster Pan-Africanism Revive Nkrumah's vision of a united Africa, promoting solidarity and cooperation among African nations. 6. Develop strategic industries Focus on sectors like technology, renewable energy, and agriculture to reduce dependence on foreign aid and expertise. 7. Encourage local innovation Support innovation hubs, startups, and research institutions to develop homegrown solutions. 8. Negotiate fair deals Ensure fair trade agreements and investment deals that benefit Africa, not just external partners. 9. Build strong civil society Empower local communities, NGOs, and media to hold leaders accountable and resist external influence. 10. Learn from history Study Nkrumah's work and the experiences of other African nations to inform strategies for resisting neocolonialism.
Passionate about seeing the Alkebulan of my dream emerge. I am unapologetically African. We are building the Emerging Alkebulan. Titles don't matter. Disrupting the status quo. Thought provoker. Pan African to the core.
How does Africa protect its vision driven leadership from imperialist attacks 🤔 😕 The leaders who have the Alkebulan at heart never seem to last as alluded to here by June Milne, Kwame Nkrumah was taken out because of his Pan-African ideologies which did not sit well with the hegemonic powers. We have Ibrahim Traore and the other Sahel Warriors trying to free their people from the continued shackles of neo-colonialism. Once again I ask, how does Africa protect its Warriors from the enemy within and the external detractors? #Oladelesthoughts

In the decades since 9/11, the challenge posed by jihadist groups has grown increasingly complex. Today, #policy solutions go beyond #military strategy or #economic sanctions, touching upon state bureaucracy, local economies, alliances, #diplomacy, and power competition among local, regional, and global actors. A new publication edited by Devorah Margolin, Ph.D. and Aaron Y. Zelin, Ph.D. draws from a daylong #strategy session - which included insights by scholars and practitioners - on why jihadists govern, the road from state capture to state-building, and contending with the challenges of jihadist governance. #middleeast #mideast #policy #foreignpolicy

"The charges against Netanyahu and Gallant are bogus. They stand accused of starving Gaza, while convoys have been delivering many tons of food and other humanitarian aid since the war began. I can think of no other belligerent that has fed the civilian population of its enemy during ongoing military operations. Yet Israel is still held liable for not providing “enough” aid, despite Hamas’s theft and looting of the supplies once they enter the Gaza Strip. At the same time, the ICC says Netanyahu and Gallant have intentionally targeted Gaza’s civilian population, even though the research of experts such as John Spencer of West Point has demonstrated that Israel has taken extraordinary steps to keep civilian casualties low." #InternationalRelations #Diplomacy #ForeignPolicy #InternationalAffairs #ForeignAffairs #Military #Defense #Navy #ArmedForces https://lnkd.in/d8Fpm-dN
