The current negotiations “Israel-Hamas” are reminiscent of the "#DeadCat" 🐈⬛☠️ #Diplomacy famously employed by SecState James Baker, where the true aim isn't to secure an agreement but rather to position the blame for the inevitable impasse squarely on the other side—the so-called "dead cat" in the room. * In this context, both #Netanyahu and #Sinwar are skillfully playing this game. For #Netanyahu, the dead cat diplomacy allows him to deflect internal and external pressures by portraying Sinwar and Hamas as the intransigent party, thereby justifying his own hardline stance and bolstering his position among supporters who favor a tough approach. * On the other hand, #Sinwar is equally adept at this strategy, using the negotiations to demonstrate to his base and regional allies that it is Israel, under Netanyahu's leadership, that is unwilling to make concessions or engage in meaningful dialogue. The war between Israel and the Palestinians is not over land. It is a war fueled by jihadist extremists that espouse an anti-Semitic/anti-West ideology that will settle for nothing less than complete destruction of Israel and, ultimately, the United States. Western governments, however, prefer to ignore this inconvenient fact because it runs counter to their fancied solutions of diplomacy. Diplomacy doesn’t work with groups like Hamas, Hezbollah, ISIS, the Houthis, etc. These extremist groups disregard diplomatic norms and use terrorism as an extension of their foreign policies. The playing field simply is not even; we are not speaking the same language as these people. If the October 7 massacres were committed merely as an act of defense by Palestinians or a fight for land, then how do you explain the barbarism committed against unarmed civilian partygoers at the Nova Festival? How do you explain the mockery and laughter of the fighters who recorded themselves committing acts of violent sexual assault of Israeli women (including beheadings) and then proudly posting it to social media? These are not people fighting for land and freedom; these are brainwashed human beings who have been poisoned by years of jihadist propaganda to the point where they’re blind to the humanity and suffering of others. You don’t have to be an expert in jihadist terrorism or the history of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Just use a little common sense. We must recognize the awful fact that diplomatic efforts are unlikely to resolve this ongoing conflict. Any proposed solutions that don’t address the reality of extremist ideology and the propaganda machine attached to it will always fall flat on its face.

A very interesting discussion with Rahul on the recently concluded SCO Summit in Islamabad, Pakistan. India made a strong statement on Regional Security and highlighted focus on Terrorism, Separatism and Extremism. SCO must foster collaboration, cooperation and Connectivity. This can be best achieved through good neighbourly relations. Eurasia will be an important area for India to develop as we are a very heavy energy dependent nation. We all know that peace in the Middle East is vital for the security of the Middle East and the security of the world. The Gulf leaders genuinely want peace and security and are ready to work towards it. I witnessed this during my visit to Saudi Arabia on the invitation of the Saudi Arabian government in late 2023. Its leaders are visionary and want quick forward moving policies to be implemented. They are choosing to focus on economic growth and diplomatic ties and moving away from narrow views based on religious exclusivism. The world had hope in the rapprochement brokered by China between Iran and Saudi and between Israel and Saudi, as well as with the Abraham Accords – the bilateral agreements on Arab–Israeli normalization signed between Israel and the UAE and between Israel and Bahrain. But the Hamas attack on October 7th, 2023, has disrupted that peace.
