If you're really that good and have helped X companies increase their revenue 10x, why don't you offer a revenue-share collaboration model? I sometimes get messages like the one in this screenshot from people trying to sell me something. My first concern? What if I pay them and it doesn't work? I’ll lose both money and time. What will they lose? Maybe their reputation, but only if I go public with my disappointment. Plus, their motivation might be lower since they get paid regardless of my success. That’s why I always ask for a revenue-share model, but... It’s usually the last message in the conversation 😅😅. I understand it’s not always possible to switch to a rev-share model instead of upfront payments but think about how it will boost trust! You’ll also need to be selective with clients and turn down those you can’t deliver results for. At Lengi, we decided to go this route because we know our clients don’t want to pay before they earn. When they start working with us, their only risk is time, and our risk is not getting a return on our investment if we're not a good match. The best part of this model is that both we and the client are on the same team. We don’t even need complex agreements—both sides have to stay engaged and creative. When one wins, the other wins too.

Before starting Inspect Point, I’d never run a business before. I didn’t come from a software background either. However, I did possess a great deal of firsthand knowledge about the fire protection industry and had some great sales experience under my belt. With that working in my favor, I needed a team to complement my strengths and account for my blind spots. Enter Padraic Doyle and Philip Sirigiano Jr, two expert developers and startup-minded gurus with excellent technical knowledge. Last but not least, Jennifer Doyle rounded off our team with her ability to develop a process and structure that would keep us on task - and plenty of customer success know-how as well. All four of us have vastly different skill sets and backgrounds, but we come together like pieces of a puzzle. With their expertise, even a software outsider like me was able to jump on board and offer my own strengths to build up the team. The best advice I can give to those building a business from scratch is to find co-founders with skill sets that complement your own. With that approach, you can build out a balanced team that has every base covered.

That feeling of unrest is trying to tell you something. When you sit down to work each day - you don’t feel that fire in your belly anymore. You find yourself not looking forward to work that you once enjoyed. These are all signs that something in your business is out of alignment. Which also explains why your revenue has plateaued. It also explains why that things that have “worked” in the past aren’t working anymore as it relates to you sales and marketing. You’re being called to do business differently. You have to keep going despite: ↳ Worrying about your next Client. ↳ Feeling it’s not going to work. ↳ Getting rejections for long. ↳ Prospects ghosting you. ↳ Feeling worthless.
