Servant Leadership: You are a servant leader when you focus on the needs of others before you consider your own. It's a longer-term approach to leadership, rather than a technique that you can adopt in specific situations. Therefore, you can use it with other leadership styles such as Transformational Leadership. During the promotional process how can we ensure a supervisor is practicing servant leadership? Quite simply, have their subordinates and peers fill out an anonymous 360 degree evaluation. When someone knows they are going to be evaluated by their peers and subordinates during the promotional process, they might be less inclined to treat people poorly. Then again, there are those managers who will just be a manager and not a leader.

A top performer does not mean that the top performer can LEAD other top performers. It means that he/she is a top performer. Leadership is a SKILL. If you don’t spend time teaching others in your organization, provide feedback and constructive criticism, then don’t put the top performer in a leadership position. Leadership is a sacrifice and a responsibility. Long before it is a “reward.”

When it comes to leadership, it’s important to remember that it isn’t “one size fits all.” Some companies rely on a more hands-on, managerial approach while others benefit from their leaders taking a step back. Thankfully, one sign of a good leader is an ability to anticipate the needs of their team members and companies as a whole.

Loyalty is a cornerstone of effective leadership, in the context of educational leadership, it takes on nuanced dimensions. Rooted in trust, commitment, and shared purpose, loyalty can foster strong relationships among leaders, staff, families, and students. However, it also carries potential risks if not balanced with critical thinking and accountability. To change a company, develop the leadership! Where you start? Consider getting your key leaders to jump on a "Great Boss" workshop! If you want different results, you must consider this: 1) What does your leadership team need to STOP doing? 2) What does your leadership team need to START doing? 3) What does your leadership team need to KEEP doing?
We've said it before, and we'll say it again: As goes the leadership team, so goes the rest of the organization. You and your fellow leaders are the ones who embody your Core Values, drive the vision, and foster a culture of accountability for your entire company. The biggest leadership lesson I learned from playing under Paul Lambert, Gerry Francis, Nigel Worthington and more: Leadership isn’t a job title. It's action and example. All of the great managers I played under led in different ways, but they all had one thing in common…. They knew what true leadership looked like. They didn’t just tell us what to do, they lived it. Whether it was: - The way they handled pressure - How they communicated. - The standards they set. No matter what it was, they led by doing. And there’s a lesson there for leaders in the business world. Because getting a “leadership role” does not make you a leader. Action & example does.
