As I reflect on our first townhall of the 2025 fiscal year, one theme that resonated deeply with me: the importance of staying connected. This year, as part of Diageo South, West, and Central Africa’s new culture code, we have embraced the power of connection - not just in our work but in how we lead, collaborate, and grow together. Staying connected isn’t just about meetings and check ins ; it’s about fostering genuine relationships with our teams, understanding their challenges, and celebrating their successes. It’s about being present, approachable, and actively engaged with the incredible individuals who drive our business forward. In a year where we’ve set ambitious targets, it’s easy to get lost in the numbers, but it’s our people who are at the heart of our success. Connection is also about integrity, ethics and compassion. We have committed ourselves to delivering outstanding results, but how we achieve them matters just as much. We must hold ourselves accountable to the highest standards, treating each other with respect and care every step of the way. In that townhall, I saw our team’s passion and dedication. I felt the shared commitment to our collective goals and was reminded that our greatest strength lies in unity. We are in this together, and by staying connected, we create a culture where everyone feels valued, heard, and empowered to give their best. As we forge ahead, let us remember that staying connected isn’t a one-time effort; it’s a continuous commitment. Let’s listen more, support each other, and celebrate every milestone along the way. I’m honored to be considered for the Most Influential People in the Events Industry, https://lnkd.in/eT8uMBfq! but I believe this recognition should stand for something more than personal achievement. It’s a call to action for all of us in the industry to step up and push for higher standards. First and foremost, I want to emphasize the importance of facilitators, or as I like to call them, “collaboration artists.” These individuals are the glue that holds any successful event together. They foster meaningful connections, encourage collaboration, and create spaces for genuine engagement. It’s time we recognize their role as critical to our industry’s future. The event industry itself plays an unrecognized yet pivotal role in sparking progress. Events are often where the most innovative ideas are born and connections are made that drive change across industries. We must advocate for the recognition of our field, not just as a logistics provider but as a catalyst for solutions, creativity, and collaboration. In addition, we must: • Promote Sustainability • Ensure Diversity and Inclusion • Improve Networking Opportunities • Support Mental Health and Wellness • Leverage Cutting-edge Technology • Year-Round Engagement • Increase Safety and Security • Leave a Legacy This nomination isn’t just a personal milestone, it’s an invitation for all of us to come together and improve the quality of our industry. I challenge my peers to join me on this quest, not just to gain recognition, but to elevate the way we create, collaborate, and connect, ensuring that our gatherings have lasting, meaningful impact and that the importance of our industry is fully recognized. Let’s make our industry one that people truly value and look forward to being part of.

As I usually do I like to share personal stories and how those experiences have impacted me throughout my career. I believe Presence and Engagement within the given industry we are connected to provides great power and influence to how we develop our skills and gain knowledge and just as important (maybe more importantly) - how we contribute of our expertise, insights and perspectives and from those we gain value which is leveraged to benefit our own business, and relationships. The barrier to engagement...most often it's time, second is a monetary consideration. But when one considers engagement as an investment in themselves and their business suddenly perspectives are reconsidered on what they will gain from those experiences. But it takes commitment and effort...there is no magic trick to share. To be a champion, you have to be in the game otherwise the sideline is as far as one can go. https://lnkd.in/g_hdZZ_M

This is a tough post for me to share. Why? Because putting my goals, dreams, and aspirations out there publicly is intimidating. What if I don’t achieve them? What if people laugh? I don’t often post my thoughts because of these fears, but I’m done letting them hold me back. So, here goes… First, I’m grateful to have been recognized as a winner in the 2024 Catalyst Awards. Last night, I was recognised for Creativity and Innovation, Partnership and to my team’s absolute delight - the Office Sunshine. 👀 But don't worry, I feel very grounded - they made sure of it! 😂 The truth is, these awards are not just about me. They represent the passion, commitment, and creativity of the Action Against Hunger UK team. Together, we’ve faced obstacles, lifted each other up when things got tough, and never shied away from doing what’s right. These moments of recognition remind me of how far we’ve come. Not only as individuals, but especially as a team. We’ve shown what it means to work with purpose, to support each other, and to stand together on the right side of history. There’s still so much to do, and this is no time for complacency. But I wanted to take a moment to reflect on and celebrate the people I’m so grateful to work alongside every day. There is SO So much I LOVE about this! A few Authentic leaders/colleagues I definitely can nominate…how about you? It’s a lesson we try and instill in our kids. A vision most parents likely have. Love the shift into the vision “to be” in business too! Have you ever sensed someone wasn't being authentic? The same rings true in leading our teams. The key to having a team that has your back is to keep it real, every step of the way. I firmly believe that my team stands by me because I lead with authenticity. What they see is what they get! I'm not afraid to show vulnerability, admit when I don't have all the answers, or own up to my mistakes. Leading with authenticity means being transparent about what's happening or not. When you lead authentically, your team knows they can trust you = Strong/Trusting relationships. This is my absolute favourite time of year, I just love a... Awards season! 🏆 (You thought I was going to say autumn, didn't you?) From a professional POV, nothing gives me a thrill like awards. The past two weeks have seen the shortlist announcements fortunately flood in - not just for us here at Conteur but across our client spectrum - and I LOVE it. It's not just reaping the rewards either - I thrive under the pressure of pulling together a submission; of working with clients, teams and individuals to pull out and highlight the incredible things they are doing every day. So why enter awards? Honestly, I could go on and on, but here are just a few: ▪ They promote employee / client engagement - nothing says you care about and recognise a person's / teams efforts than entering them into an award ▪ Brand awareness and kudos - not only will a shortlisting / award win help you reach an extended, or possibly even new, audience, who DOESN'T want to be know as 'award-winning?' ▪ They offer up an opportunity for reflection - what are you doing? Are you doing it well? What aren't you doing so well? Often, the criteria for an award category can help highlight areas for improvement or just confirm that you're actually already up to scratch ▪ Peer-to-peer recognition - you can say you're great until the cows come home BUT when people in your industry say it about you; that's truly earned PR ▪ Speaking of which, the PR opportunities are endless - shout about it from the rooftops; whether you've been shortlisted or won, maximise that PESO model as much as you can!
