This latest funding brings CleverCards' total funding to date to €28 million, a remarkable achievement in the current challenging capital market. Brex vs Ramp is an interesting story to watch. Their underlying business models are still extremely reliant on interchange, which is still one of the highest margin gross revenue stream in payments. There is gradual downward pressure on interchange rates (way too slowly imho), so it's interesting to see Ramp's focus on AP Automation and subscription fee based revenue. https://lnkd.in/estju5hz?

People always talk about how small the payments space is, but what does that really mean? Reflecting on last week at ETA Transact, here’s what that statement means to me: 1. After being in payments my entire career, a show like ETA feels like homecoming. It’s impossible not to run into folks I know in the elevator, walking the halls, hanging at the booth, at dinner, at the airport (you get the idea). 2. You never know who is coming back next year with a different company. One day you’re competitors, the next your partners. It was incredible to see how many of my friends have switched roles but are still playing this crazy game we call payments. 3. Expanding on number 2, don’t sleep on the value of your reputation. How you treat people matters, and you never know whose help you will need in the future. A little kindness goes a long way. 4. “Your network is your networth” (or something like that 🤷♂️). I was amazed at how many quality introductions I recieved this year to potential partners, vendors, employees, and investors from folks in my network. 5. Word of mouth is powerful when done right. Everybody knows everybody in payments so doing right by your partners and building a strong brand can create network effects very quickly in this space.
