Tech skills are in high demand, and apprenticeships are becoming a powerful pathway for women to break into STEM fields. With only a small percentage of women in technology roles globally, apprenticeships offer a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience, earn while learning, and avoid the financial burden of traditional education. As the tech industry continues to grow, it's essential to increase the representation of women and create pathways for diverse talent to succeed. Apprenticeships are proving to be a key solution in addressing this gender gap. Discover how apprenticeships are opening doors for women in tech: https://hubs.la/Q02XYFhR0 #NAW2024 #WomenInTech

🌟 Empowering the Next Generation: Girls into Apprenticeships 🌟 I'm just getting started on a new project in collaboration with WISE, dedicated to creating supportive and informative resources for employers to better engage with girls and young women to encourage them to embark on #apprenticeships in #STEM! The toolkit aims to break down the barriers that so often discourage girls and young women from exploring STEM fields, ensuring they have the support and encouragement they need every step of the way. But why does this matter?! - Representation: We need better visibility of female role models and to create environments where girls can see themselves in STEM roles. - Diversity drives innovation: Different perspectives lead to better solutions and creativity - a win for industry if you ask me. - Closing the gender gap: Equal representation across all industries is essential. - Progression: It's vital to ensure clear pathways for career development and progression, allowing girls and young women to see a long-term future in #STEM. - Engagement with the next generation: Building relationships with schools and communities to inspire the next generation is absolutely key. We have to get the message out there that apprenticeships are beneficial and accessible for all! 👉I'd love to hear your thoughts and views! What initiatives have you implemented to support #femaleapprentices in STEM? How have you adapted your recruitment processes or job advertisements to be more inclusive? What successful practices can others learn from? 🌍💡 #WomenInSTEM #STEMEducation #Inclusion #FutureOfWork #STEMCareers #GenderEquality #GirlsinApprenticeships

Please don't preach on LinkedIn if you aren't actually going to DO anything 🙄... Recently, I’ve noticed many posts highlighting gender inequality, neurodiversity, and other DEI issues in tech. While raising awareness is crucial, it's even more important to take steps to make a difference. Here are some simple actions we can all take to improve DEI in our community: Welcome Everyone 🌟: Ask your peers how to make your workplace more inclusive and welcoming. Hire Diversely 👥: Encourage referrals from your team, work with recruitment to widen the talent pool, and create opportunities for apprenticeships and internships from non-tech backgrounds. Mentor and Support 🤝: Launch a mentorship program at your company or find online mentorship opportunities. Track Progress 📊: Set DEI goals and share your progress with the wider company to gain more engagement and share a common goal. Let’s turn our words into actions! #DEI #Diversity #DiversityEquityInclusion

International Women’s Day: Empowering Women in Tech Despite advancements, women remain underrepresented in the tech industry. Here's why encouraging women into tech is crucial and how apprenticeships can serve as a catalyst for their success: Closing the Gender Gap: Only 26% of computing jobs are held by women, according to the National Center for Women & Information Technology, and in 2022/23 only 23% of students enrolled to computer science programs were female. Unlocking Innovation: Research shows that companies with more women in leadership positions achieve higher financial returns. Embracing gender diversity fuels creativity and problem-solving and drives tech innovation. Building Skills and Confidence: Apprenticeships provide women with practical experience and professional development opportunities. Apprenticeship programs empower women to build essential skills and gain confidence in their abilities. Feel free to reach out for more information around the various initiatives QA has to support Women In Tech, including our Female Leadership Digital Technology Specialist master’s degree, aimed at developing the next generation of female leaders in tech! #apprenticeships #womenintech #internationalwomensday2024

The underrepresentation of women in digital & IT has turned attention to how employers and educators can make it easier to access tech-focused roles. 👏 And according to Deputy Head of Apprenticeships and Projects in Digital & IT, Cheryl Macfarlane, an avenue that often isn't championed enough is the digital workshop. In a piece for Leeds Digital, Cheryl outlines the benefits these workshops provide, including the opportunity for extra knowledge-gathering - and how this can sometimes be the deciding factor in whether a woman applies for a vacancy or not. "The data shows that, despite possessing transferable skills, women are less likely to apply for roles when they don’t meet 100% of the criteria, compared to men who apply when they meet 60%. "Workshops, therefore, provide educators and recruiters with a way to put women’s minds at ease by drawing attention to what else they are bringing to the table."
