International Women’s Day: Empowering Women in Tech Despite advancements, women remain underrepresented in the tech industry. Here's why encouraging women into tech is crucial and how apprenticeships can serve as a catalyst for their success: Closing the Gender Gap: Only 26% of computing jobs are held by women, according to the National Center for Women & Information Technology, and in 2022/23 only 23% of students enrolled to computer science programs were female. Unlocking Innovation: Research shows that companies with more women in leadership positions achieve higher financial returns. Embracing gender diversity fuels creativity and problem-solving and drives tech innovation. Building Skills and Confidence: Apprenticeships provide women with practical experience and professional development opportunities. Apprenticeship programs empower women to build essential skills and gain confidence in their abilities. Feel free to reach out for more information around the various initiatives QA has to support Women In Tech, including our Female Leadership Digital Technology Specialist master’s degree, aimed at developing the next generation of female leaders in tech! #apprenticeships #womenintech #internationalwomensday2024

The tech industry still struggles with gender diversity, with women holding only 26% of professional computing positions in 2020, according to the NCWIT. 🚶♀️🚶♀️ So why are women deterred from tech? Limited access to training, subtle biases, and a lack of female role models contribute. But there's a way to change this narrative: apprenticeships. 💡 Apprenticeships offer hands-on training, mentorship, and real-world experience, empowering women to gain essential skills and confidence. Strong relationships with educational institutions and tailored training programs are key. By encouraging more women to join through apprenticeships and partnerships, we can bridge the gender gap and foster a more inclusive tech ecosystem. Let’s discuss: Have you observed any effective apprenticeship programs for women? What steps can we take to support women in tech? #WomenInTech #Diversity #Inclusion #TechApprenticeships #MentorshipMatters

Gender gap starts from childhood, when girls are encouraged to play with dolls, makeup and kitchen toys, whereas boys are encouraged to play with construction toys, robots, science kits. etc. Rarely the opposite arises. So, when growing up, the role play continues. Women are labeled as "natural caregivers, people pleasers" and "we need to get empowered" to go into STEM related fields. We don't need to be empowered. We are already powerful. What we need is an equal right to the same level of exposure to technical and science related activities from the early childhood.
🌟 Every big idea starts with a small spark.🌟 A girl builds her first robot. She codes her first game. She discovers the thrill of mixing chemicals in a lab. These small, hands-on experiences aren’t just activities—they’re moments of magic. They inspire confidence, ignite curiosity, and build the foundation for a future in STEM. But here’s the challenge: Women still make up only 28% of the global STEM workforce. That gap doesn’t start in the boardroom; it starts in the classroom—often with a lack of exposure to technical, practical experiences that show girls their potential to innovate. ❓️Why hands-on learning matters: 1️⃣ Girls with hands-on STEM experiences are 2.5x more likely to pursue STEM careers. 2️⃣ The earlier they build, code, experiment, and create, the more they see themselves as future scientists, engineers, and innovators. 3️⃣ These moments instill skills, confidence, and curiosity that last a lifetime. 💬 Now, it’s your turn! What hands-on experience made all the difference in your journey? A science project? A coding challenge? An internship that sparked your passion? ✒️ Share your story in the comments. Because every story is a spark that could light the way for someone else. Let’s inspire the next generation of women to dream bigger, build boldly, and break barriers in STEM. Together, we can close the gap, one experience at a time. #SheInSpace #WomenInSTEM #STEMEducation #WomenEmpowerment #SheInspire #UNWomen PC: Morgan Schweitzer (Behance)

⭐ Happy Friday, everyone! We wanted to share some exciting insights from McKinsey on addressing the diversity gap in tech. The diversity gap in technology can be examined from two key perspectives. First, many young women may perceive the industry as an exclusive 'boys' club,' believing that unless they follow a traditional educational and career path, there is no place for them. This perception likely contributes to the fact that in 2021, only 22% of computing degrees were awarded to women. However, this is just one part of the equation (Spitz, 2023). The second perspective focuses on the structural challenges within the industry. As mentioned in McKinsey’s interview with Judith Spitz, Ph.D. founder of Break Through Tech, not all young people have the luxury of participating in hackathons or attending top-tier universities. Some individuals must shoulder adult responsibilities early in life, limiting their ability to invest fully in their future careers. This does not reflect a lack of potential but rather unequal access to opportunities—a distinction that is crucial. Companies should consider rethinking their hiring practices to better evaluate potential, rather than relying solely on traditional markers of privilege. Programs like 'Break Through Tech' are exemplary in this regard. Recognizing that internships may not always be the first step for everyone, this initiative offers alternative pathways for individuals to demonstrate their capabilities before entering the industry. Through this program, over 1,000 women have secured internships or full-time positions, a promising indication of progress. While large companies and elite institutions continue to inspire, the tech industry must ensure it is accessible to a broader range of talent. 👉 For more insights, check out McKinsey's interview with Judith Spitz here: https://lnkd.in/dcWSHSAz #WomenInTech #WomenInSTEM #DiversityInTech #TechInnovation #TechforAll #WomenEmpowerment

Equity and Inclusion Education is often hailed as the great equalizer, offering opportunities for personal growth, social mobility, and economic prosperity. However, for far too many individuals, barriers based on race, gender, socio-economic status, disability, or other factors hinder their access to quality education and limit their potential. Equity and inclusion are foundational principles that are essential for creating fair, just, and welcoming societies. Equity in education begins with ensuring that every individual has equal access to educational opportunities, regardless of their background or circumstances. This means removing barriers such as financial constraints, geographical location, or discrimination, and providing adequate support and resources to level the playing field. By expanding access to education, we empower individuals to reach their full potential and contribute meaningfully to society. Inclusive education goes beyond mere access-it also encompasses representation and recognition of diverse identities, perspectives, and experiences. When students see themselves reflected in the curriculum, textbooks, and teaching staff, they feel valued, empowered, and motivated to engage actively in the learning process. Moreover, exposure to diverse perspectives fosters empathy, understanding, and respect for others, laying the groundwork for a more harmonious and inclusive society. In conclusion, equity and inclusion are not just lofty ideals but fundamental principles that should guide our approach to education. By embracing diversity, dismantling barriers, and fostering inclusive learning environments, we can create a more equitable and just society where every individual has the opportunity to fulfill their potential. As educators, policymakers, and advocates, it is our collective responsibility to champion equity and inclusion in education and ensure that no one is left behind. Together, let us build a future where education is truly the great equalizer for all. TalentServe #edtech #learning #equityandinclusion #internship
