Although the beginning of the year is typically a low season for Austrian Airlines, several factors contributed to an adjusted EBIT of -62 million euros in the first six months of the current year. This result is significantly lower than the airline's expectations. The main contributor to the negative result was the months-long wage dispute at the beginning of the year, but the first half of 2024 also presented other challenges, including the situation in the Middle East, adverse weather conditions in Europe, the rising location costs, stagnating ticket prices and two prolonged fleet disruptions at Austrian Airlines. Furthermore, initial investments to expand the fleet on long-haul routes with the new #Boeing #B787-9 #Dreamliner impacted the first half of 2024 results. https://lnkd.in/dKxh7Pnv #austrianairlines Annette Mann Francesco Sciortino Lufthansa Group #airlines #aviation #wetravelbiz Wetravel.biz #wetravelaviation Wetravelaviation

In 2020, Air Canada retired its Boeing 767-300ER fleet amid the pandemic’s impact on air travel. However, the airline has announced plans to reintroduce two of these aircraft for passenger service in 2025. This decision aims to address capacity requirements as the airline anticipates increased demand. The reintroduced 767-300ERs will serve on select routes, providing additional capacity during peak travel periods. Air Canada emphasizes that this move is a temporary measure to meet immediate needs, with no long-term plans to expand the 767 fleet.

GLOBAL airlines body International Air Transport Association (Iata) has forecast industry-wide 2025 revenue of more than a trillion US dollars and record passenger numbers, despite what its chief Willie Walsh said on Tuesday (Dec 10) were “unacceptable” difficulties in securing new planes. Airlines around the world have seen their growth hampered by delays in jet deliveries stemming from problems at Boeing and Airbus as well as their suppliers. Without newer, more efficient planes, airlines say they cannot cut back fuel costs while flying more people. “We have given them time. I think our patience has run out. The situation is unacceptable,” Iata director general Walsh told reporters in Geneva. In the first six months of 2024, Swiss International Air Lines achieved an operating profit of CHF 264.2 million on total revenue of CHF 2.7 billion, a solid performance despite challenging market conditions. #SWISS's operating result for the first half of 2024 is slightly lower than the previous year's record, mainly for two reasons: the market has normalized, with previous capacity shortages that limited aircraft production now significantly reduced; and rising costs, especially for wages, fares, taxes and maintenance costs of the SWISS aircraft fleet. ℹ https://lnkd.in/d8U6KhxA #SWISSinternationalAirlines #airlines #aviation #wetravelbiz Wetravel.biz #wetravelaviation Wetravelaviation Lufthansa Group
