“Of course, it does not mean the long fight for communications justice is over: Companies looking for ways to exploit consumers still have plenty of options for doing so, […] (like electronic messaging and tablet features).” If WiFi networks installed for tablets are to have any use for delivering Pell-funded academic content or apps, pricing on this must be a next focus of transparency and advocacy. Colleges must protect students against exploitation and resist any simplistic notion of “just folding it into the aid package” as technology fees—which might cover the cost to the school for delivery, but NOT the pay-as-you-go costs for student access to online academic materials.

This holiday season, let's give returning citizens the gift they truly deserve: freedom from unnecessary punishment. 🎁 At REFORM Alliance, we're fighting for a system where second chances mean something. If you've worked hard to turn your life around, you shouldn't live in fear of being sent back to jail for a minor slip-up like missing a bus. 🙄 It's time we create a probation and parole system that actually works – one that prioritizes rehabilitation, growth, and real pathways to success. We're pushing for laws that focus on public safety, not pointless technical violations. Together, we can help returning citizens truly embrace their freedom this holiday season and beyond. They've earned it – now let's make sure the system recognizes it.

Impact on Families - Educational and Economic Gains from Electronic Monitoring Electronic monitoring (#EM) not only benefits offenders but also has positive spillover effects on their families. The study found that children of parents who were monitored electronically showed a 3.5% increase in completing compulsory schooling and a 25.3% rise in early-life earnings. These outcomes underscore EM's potential to break the cycle of intergenerational disadvantage, providing long-term educational and economic benefits to the families of offenders. This holistic impact of EM highlights its value as a comprehensive criminal justice reform tool. https://lnkd.in/djnVMx_p #supercom #nasdaq #spcb #electronicmonitoring Ordan Trabelsi SuperCom (NASDAQ: SPCB)

If you have a spare 2 mins, then this blog post by Jason at Switchback will grant you a perspective on prison that you rarely get to hear about... After reading the post, I was left thinking about the importance of what I've been calling #transitional #support. In Jason's post he says, "Three months left to serve, every second thought I have is to do with release; where am I going to live when I get out? What work can I do? What skills do I have? How am I going to get by? How will I travel? Who can I ask for help?" Jason then goes on to say.... "In the last six weeks I have been bombarded with pre-release paperwork, probation and job centre appointments. The whole process seems rushed out of nowhere and my housing situation is uncertain, I have been allocated a probation officer, but we have never met or even spoken. I am anxious to connect with them and talk about the next steps." The juxtaposition of these two moments and feeling that Jason experienced is stark and something I have witnessed in the men I have worked with 1-1 through-the-gate. Jason finally goes on to explain how having a Switchback mentor helped take the edge off all the unknowns as he mentor stepped through each process with him, meeting him on the day of his release and beyond. That is just one powerful example of transitional support and in an upcoming post I will share a great deal more on the topic. For now, do give Jason's post a read. #AlexThinkingOutLoud #HMPPS #prison #MOJ #rehabilitation #probation #criminaljustice #jail #criminology #youthwork #socialwork
Hello again it's Jason Barnfather - Influencing Intern at Switchback. This is the second blog post in a three-part series I am writing about my experience in the justice system. Following on from ‘Recall’ (the first part), ‘Rehabilitation and Release’ is a good example of how leaving prison *can* be with the right support. I didn’t want to focus on the long list of negatives to do with release, so I have put together some parts of my journey that I think will give readers an idea of how rehabilitation can work well, and highlight some improvements needed. I hope this counts towards real change in our justice system. As always, I hope you enjoy reading… P.S. the final blog will be out next week! https://lnkd.in/ehhzSddU

As we near the end of #SecondChanceMonth, we are reflecting on the importance of offering pathways to help justice impacted individuals successfully reintegrate back into their communities. Ryan Flaco Rising, UC Irvine Transfer Student Center, exemplifies the importance of second chances. He shares how he went from being incarcerated to now being an instructor in the same prison, helping others obtain their own second chances. Hear Ryan's story below and learn more about Pathways From Prison to College: https://lnkd.in/gfBmJhfn

Precisely! What sort of a society are we if we think that it is acceptable to lock people up at great expense in hideous conditions for years and not actually address their needs systematically. Let's make our nation fit to learn calmly, so that everyone can live with dignity. #motorsensoryintegration #cognition #soundprocessing #motorskills #skillsforlife https://lnkd.in/dwKwiw5Q
