Continuing the Road Safety Week theme, here's a thought for colleagues in the northern hemisphere, particularly the higher latitudes that are experiencing a cold snap with wintry weather: Get a Grip! The majority of vehicles I see running around Scotland and the north of England are fitted with Summer tyres by default, which when we are hit with the colder weather see a drop off in performance for road handling and grip - especially when temperatures are in single figures or below zero. If you do a lot of travelling in your vehicle throughout the winter months it may be worth your while investing in winter, or all season tyres to give you that little bit more safety and security. However! Winter or all season tyres do not make you immune to ice or snow. Driver input is still key in avoiding harsh acceleration, braking or steering, and consideration of increase in stopping distances. Stay safe. #roadsafety Sweco #roadsafetyweek #projectedward #tyres #tyresafety #roads #winter #winterdriving #snow #ice #driversafety

Disused car parks Interesting to note in Deputy Prime Minster Angela Rayners speech in parliament yesterday, specific reference to disused car parks as places for new development. "That is why we will release lower-quality grey-belt sites, disused car parks and garages, and ugly wasteland to meet the needs of 2024". Nothing wrong with the principle except of course new developments create transport demand. So it's to be hoped that any new development takes a holistic view to planning mobility as well as planning construction. #carparks #parking #mobility #transport #transportplanning #activetravel

As we observe Road Safety Week, it's the perfect time to remind everyone of the importance of staying safe on the roads. You play a crucial role in teaching your children how to stay safe when walking, biking, or crossing streets. Here are a few key tips to share: 👉 Look both ways before crossing the street – and always use pedestrian crossings. 👉 Always walk on the sidewalk or, if there isn’t one, face oncoming traffic. 👉 Make eye contact with drivers to ensure they see you before crossing. 👉 Wear bright or reflective clothing so you're visible, especially at night. Road safety starts with us! Stay aware, stay safe.
