📢 Insights: Parenting and Early Years Services 📢 Our research reveals the urgent need for greater investment and integrated support in the Parenting and Early Years sector. Earlier this year, our research team travelled across the UK, engaging with grant holders and organisations working in this area and local authorities to better understand the state of Parenting and Early Years provision. Here’s what we found: 💡 Early intervention matters: Preventative services are crucial for reducing family crises, but funding cuts have left these services vulnerable. 👥 Community organisations are key: Local support is often the first touchpoint, connecting families to broader resources. 🤝 Collaboration is essential: A cohesive approach across sectors is essential to providing holistic support for families. With only 6% of charitable funds reaching children 0-5, there is a gap to fill. Community Needs Network – Bringing Essential Support to Our Community✨ Over the past three years, our team has raised and donated over $100,000 to support our local communities through The Community Needs Network. This initiative is dedicated to uniting our efforts to make a meaningful impact for those in need.❤️ How It Works: The Community Needs Network operates on the strength of collaboration and generosity. Our team comes together to organize creative and engaging fundraising events. We use the proceeds to either purchase essential items or provide emergency kits when needed. Sometimes, instead of monetary funds, we collect direct donations of crucial items to distribute to those in need. This flexible approach ensures we can offer the right support at the right time, based on the community’s most urgent needs. We work to understand the most urgent needs of our community and provide targeted support, whether it’s food, hygiene supplies, or other critical resources. 👏 Our mission is to ensure that everyone in our community has access to essential items when they need them most. Give your time - Give your voice to help raise awareness for a local issue, lend your talents to a nonprofit who needs your expertise, or take an hour to call a senior who may be lonely. 2. Give Gratitude - Thank your postal carrier, delivery driver, and other essential workers. Write thank you cards, post on social media, and share your appreciation for the people and organizations who are helping your community 3. Give Support - Community organizations + nonprofits need your support now more than ever. Find organizations to support through your local GivingTuesday community movement. August marked a significant milestone for us—we gave out over 103,800 pounds of food in just one month! This is the first time we've surpassed 100,000 pounds in a single month, serving a record 1,822 families—equating to 5,610 people! To put that in perspective, in August 2023, we provided just shy of 75,000 pounds of food to 1,207 families—reaching 3,929 people. The growth we are experiencing is truly humbling. As we transition from our "slower season," with an already 44% growth rate compared to last year, into the busy months from September to December, we anticipate serving even more people in our programs. And we can serve these ever-increasing numbers with the support of our community! I was listening to an NPR Life Kit tonight about Giving Tuesday - they were trying to help people figure out how to make charitable gifts. 1) Think about things you care about. 2) Write down a list of organizations that are working to make that happen, and 3) Make a budget. (And make a donation!) It's not bad advice. It's a little dry and passionless for my taste - but in some ways, I hope you do this today/Tuesday. I hope you think about what you want your community to look like for *everyone* and think about your budget and give what you can give. Today/Tuesday is a great day to do it because a lot of non-profits are hoping you will, but really any day is a good day to give. I've worked at WayForward Resources for 23 years come January. It's a good organization that is very responsibly operated and managed, with the best of the people you've ever known working and volunteering and teaming together to create that better world. Follow along with our GivingTuesday Block Party all day long. If nothing else, please share a post or two. Give a few (or more) dollars if you can. Make the world better for someone today. As one of the equally busiest food pantries in our community, and one of the only organizations in Dane County providing housing case management, eviction prevention funds, and a doubled-up housing program, your donation during this will increase our impact, helping us provide food, housing, and hope to our community. #buildtogether
