I was listening to an NPR Life Kit tonight about Giving Tuesday - they were trying to help people figure out how to make charitable gifts. 1) Think about things you care about. 2) Write down a list of organizations that are working to make that happen, and 3) Make a budget. (And make a donation!) It's not bad advice. It's a little dry and passionless for my taste - but in some ways, I hope you do this today/Tuesday. I hope you think about what you want your community to look like for *everyone* and think about your budget and give what you can give. Today/Tuesday is a great day to do it because a lot of non-profits are hoping you will, but really any day is a good day to give. I've worked at WayForward Resources for 23 years come January. It's a good organization that is very responsibly operated and managed, with the best of the people you've ever known working and volunteering and teaming together to create that better world. Follow along with our GivingTuesday Block Party all day long. If nothing else, please share a post or two. Give a few (or more) dollars if you can. Make the world better for someone today. As one of the equally busiest food pantries in our community, and one of the only organizations in Dane County providing housing case management, eviction prevention funds, and a doubled-up housing program, your donation during this will increase our impact, helping us provide food, housing, and hope to our community. #buildtogether

August marked a significant milestone for us—we gave out over 103,800 pounds of food in just one month! This is the first time we've surpassed 100,000 pounds in a single month, serving a record 1,822 families—equating to 5,610 people! To put that in perspective, in August 2023, we provided just shy of 75,000 pounds of food to 1,207 families—reaching 3,929 people. The growth we are experiencing is truly humbling. As we transition from our "slower season," with an already 44% growth rate compared to last year, into the busy months from September to December, we anticipate serving even more people in our programs. And we can serve these ever-increasing numbers with the support of our community! Thank you for your contributions of time, food, and funds; we couldn't serve our neighbors in need without you! #DonateFood #FoodDrive #FeedCentralOregon #EndHunger #FightHunger #CommunitySupport #CentralOregonGives #LocalFoodPantry #GiveBack #HelpYourNeighbors #CentralOregonCares #SupportLocalCharities #FoodForAll #GiveLocal #NeighborsHelpingNeighbors #VolunteerCentralOregon #GiveYourTime #MakeADifference #VolunteerLocally #BeTheChange #HelpYourCommunity

HOLIDAY GIVING MATTERS: The holiday season is a time to come together and support those in need. We appreciate your support and look forward to welcoming you back as we continue serving the community. ✅ Support local food drives: Your business can help stock community fridges with healthy and nutritious food for families experiencing food insecurity, especially during the holidays. ✅ Donate funds: Financial support helps us maintain our fridges, purchase food, and reach more families. You can donate directly here: https://gofund.me/b018edc2 ✅ Offer volunteer hours: Encourage your employees to volunteer their time with local initiatives. Together, we can ensure no one goes hungry this holiday season. ✅ Spread the word: Use your platform to share the message of giving. The more visibility we gain, the more families we can help. During this season of gratitude and spreading joy, it's also the perfect time to give back and get involved in our local communities. So I’m sharing some ways you can do just that here in Houston: Whether you're looking to volunteer your time, donate resources, or simply get involved, here are some local organizations I’d recommend: 🤝🏼 Houston Food Bank 📌 What they do: The Houston Food Bank is the largest food bank in America, providing meals to thousands of families in need across 18 southeast Texas counties. They’re committed to fighting hunger and providing access to nutritious food. 📌 How you can help: You can volunteer at their warehouse, participate in food drives, or donate funds. Every $1 donated provides 3 meals! 🤝🏼 Society of St. Stephens 📌 What they do: Society of St. Stephens offers emergency assistance to individuals and families in need. They provide food, clothing, and financial aid, helping people in crisis get back on their feet. 📌 How you can help: Donate items like food and clothing, volunteer to organize distributions, or contribute funds to support their outreach programs. 🤝🏼 HAAM Social Services 📌 What they do: Humble Area Assistance Ministries (HAAM) provides essential resources such as food, financial assistance, and employment services to individuals and families in need, fostering hope and self-sufficiency. 📌 How you can help: Volunteer at their food pantry, help with fundraising events, or make a financial contribution. This holiday season, let’s come together for our community & give back! Are there any other organizations you support that I should add to the list? Please let me know so I can include them! #HoustonRealtor #HoustonRealEstate #RealtorHouston #TexasRealtor #HoustonHomes #HoustonHomesForSale #HouseHunting #MoveToHouston #HoustonRelocation #HTX #TheWoodlandsTX #CypressTX #SpringTX #KingwoodTX #KatyTX #HoustonRealEstateUpdate #HoustonHousingMarket #HoustonLifestyle #Volunteer #HoustonFirstTimeHomebuyer #HoustonInvestors #PetFriendlyHoustonHomes #NidiaKnowsRealEstate

Yesterday was #GivingTuesday. It has us thinking of those in our own community who need assistance. Even communities that seem socioeconomically alright often have people who are struggling in one way or another. Around this time back in 2018 we started something small at our local school and it has snowballed into a districtwide event with multiple businesses involved. This year’s event takes place tomorrow and we are pumped! Seeing the work that others in our HTM community do to give back inspires us to keep going and growing. We know that not every individual or every business is in a position to donate money, but there are other ways to have an impact in your community. Often times, especially for kids, it means so much just to know that somebody cares. Sharing food with a food pantry, giving travel toiletries to a school’s “Care Closet”, donating luggage to foster kids, and passing on outgrown coats are all ways of helping. Maybe your business could ask the local school or college if there is a student who you could sponsor for shoes or stationery supplies. If you are able to volunteer time, you could identify a community need and organize a way to fill it. Those of you who have had the thought, “Someone should do something about _____ ,” please entertain the thought that Someone could be YOU. #payitforward #giveback #startsmall #community #mybackyard

Three ways you can connect 🤝 with those experiencing homelessness: 1. A simple "hello" with eye contact can create a powerful connection, letting someone know you see them as a person of value and worth. Treating others with dignity is a POWERFUL gift. 2. Consider donating water, hygiene products, clothing, or other needed items to our Mission. We provide these items to our guests in need. 3. If you can, consider giving the gift of your time by volunteering to serve our neighbors. Signing up is simple! Just in time for Giving Tuesday: Jamie French, CFP®, CPA, MSFP spoke with James Crummel on ABC 27 Day Break to talk about making holiday donations count. As we kick off this season of giving, it’s important to remember how much good we can do by being intentional with our contributions. Here are a few tips Jamie shared: ✔️ Find Your Passion – Focus on causes that resonate with you, whether it’s education, hunger relief, or community development. ✔️ Do Your Homework – Research charities to ensure your donations are going to organizations making a real impact. ✔️ Plan Your Giving – Establish a strategy so you can give confidently, knowing you’re supporting the causes that matter most to you. The holidays are a busy time, but they’re also an opportunity to support those in need. Whether it’s through your time, resources, or a financial gift, your generosity can make a world of difference. And don’t forget—giving can come with benefits for you, too, like potential tax deductions! https://buff.ly/4ih4EpK #GivingTuesday #CommunityImpact #IntentionalGiving #AdventPartners #ABC27News
