We invite you to participate in our research concerning Australian Teachers’ Perceptions of the Inclusion of Students with Disability. This research, led by Dr. Traci-Ann Garrad from The University of Notre Dame Australia and Dr. Samantha Vlcek from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, aims to explore and understand Australian teachers' perceptions of the inclusion of students with disability as categorised by the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). Your insights will help us gauge: Instructional Knowledge: Do you feel you have enough training or professional development in supporting students with various disability? Teacher Self-Efficacy: How confident are you in your ability to meet these students' needs? Support Adequacy: Are the current supports and services available to you adequate? The survey should take no more than 20 minutes of your time to complete, and your contribution is highly valued and appreciated in helping us to support teachers Australia wide. https://lnkd.in/gmGR4nYY Image Description: The image is an informational flyer for a research survey. It is divided into several sub sections and includes a QR code. "That's FAPE." Sound familiar? I thought I knew what it meant when I was a school psych because someone told me. Here's the truth... They were wrong. 👇 When I became a special education advocate, I started educating myself on what IDEA Law really meant. I looked things up and took courses with others who were also on a path to help families thrive. I couldn't believe it. Why would someone tell me something wrong, AND why didn't I consider that someone telling someone, telling someone else maybe wasn't the right way to run meetings. ⛔ To make it easy, I created an easy-to-use Guide on the 6 PILLARS of IDEA Law. Definitions for things you've heard before, like IEPs, LRE, FAPE and so much more. Definitions with accurate info that's easy to understand and ready to share at IEPs, 504s, and intervention meetings. If you want to make things better at the table and learn to advocate like a pro, check out our PILLARS guide. 📜 👉 To get your FREE guide click the link below https://lnkd.in/gGs8U4MU Sweater by https://lnkd.in/geUzPE9H Ring by https://lnkd.in/gb8wmAUA #iepsupport #iepresources #betteriep #iepadvocacy #specialeducation #iep #disability #inclusion #spedteacher #learningdisabilities #adhd #autism #specialeducationadvocate

👁 Did you see The City University of New York's new "New Accessibility Policy for Students with Disabilities"? 🔎 The new policy outlines mandates for the university and professors : -Mandate the availability of QLAs, accessible course materials and assistive technology or other aids. -Establish an accessibility services web portal for students to report concerns about the process. -Prevent potential delays by establishing a two-week timeframe for implementation by campus offices of disability services, beginning with the receipt of a student’s request for academic accommodations. -Embed accessibility in all course materials. 🤔 I'm mulling over the policy to practice implications. This sounds good, but who is ensuring that these things happen? What questions are popping up for you? https://lnkd.in/efh2iqZh #Disability #Accessibility #College #HigherEd

It's time to reconsider the approach to Special Education. We can empower students to leverage their unique qualities to their benefit. Having a disability doesn't equate to a lack of capability. #educationalleadership #neurodiversityaffirming #transformativeeducation

Ever notice WHEN things happen in an IEP meeting? This is because IDEA Law mandates a specific flow and sequence. Why is this SO important? Keep reading... 👇 IDEA mandates teams formulate education plans based on need. This means, ALL kids who qualify for an IEP aren't offered the SAME services and supports. 🚫 IDEA Law ensures IEPs are derived from assessment and a child's present levels of academic achievement and functional performance. IEPs need to start from the ground up, meaning every level (aka step) builds onto the next one. Here's the order IEP meetings must follow: 1️⃣ Assessment 2️⃣ Goals 3️⃣ Services 4️⃣ Placement Is this happening for your student or child? If not, get the tools to get IEPs back on track with our Do It Yourself Meetings workshop. 👩💻 Everything you need, without the wait... 👉 Follow Rise then click the link to jump start your advocacy. https://lnkd.in/gSbfjj5v Dress and earrings by https://lnkd.in/g4ChH-KS Bracelet by https://lnkd.in/gUtUiwQq Ring by https://lnkd.in/gKVuXM5V #iepsupport #iepmeetings #iepparent #specialedsupport #iepadvocate#specialeducation #iep #disability #inclusion #spedteacher #learningdisabilities #adhd #autism #specialeducationadvocate

As your child transitions into postsecondary education, it’s crucial to ensure they receive the right support for success. Here’s what you should look for when identifying appropriate services: ✅ Know Their Rights: Under the ADA and Section 504, your child has the right to accommodations—learn how these laws apply in college settings. ✅ Connect Early with Disability Services: Contact the school's disability services office before the semester begins to discuss your child’s unique needs and the accommodations they may require. ✅ Evaluate Support Programs: Some colleges offer specialized programs for students with disabilities. These can provide academic coaching, life skills training, and social support. ✅ Foster Self-Advocacy: Encourage your child to take an active role in communicating their needs. Postsecondary environments often require students to self-advocate, so it’s a great time to help them build this skill. Your child's journey to independence and success starts with the right support system in place! #SpecialEducation #PostsecondaryEducation #TransitionPlanning #DisabilitySupport #InclusiveEducation #ParentingTips #SpecialNeeds
