"That's FAPE." Sound familiar? I thought I knew what it meant when I was a school psych because someone told me. Here's the truth... They were wrong. 👇 When I became a special education advocate, I started educating myself on what IDEA Law really meant. I looked things up and took courses with others who were also on a path to help families thrive. I couldn't believe it. Why would someone tell me something wrong, AND why didn't I consider that someone telling someone, telling someone else maybe wasn't the right way to run meetings. ⛔ To make it easy, I created an easy-to-use Guide on the 6 PILLARS of IDEA Law. Definitions for things you've heard before, like IEPs, LRE, FAPE and so much more. Definitions with accurate info that's easy to understand and ready to share at IEPs, 504s, and intervention meetings. If you want to make things better at the table and learn to advocate like a pro, check out our PILLARS guide. 📜 👉 To get your FREE guide click the link below https://lnkd.in/gGs8U4MU Sweater by https://lnkd.in/geUzPE9H Ring by https://lnkd.in/gb8wmAUA #iepsupport #iepresources #betteriep #iepadvocacy #specialeducation #iep #disability #inclusion #spedteacher #learningdisabilities #adhd #autism #specialeducationadvocate

So your child needs prompts... but what TYPE? Being specific means your child gets the right support that promotes independence. Without it...👇 Your child may become prompt dependent. Or worse yet, won't learn the right skills. It's all about specificity and consistency in IEPs and 504 Plans. Building a strong education plan means the entire team needs to facilitate learning in the same way. If prompting isn't clarified, then the plan won't work. ⛔ It's like ordering something online and you forget to add your street address! The IEP is finished and you're given the paperwork to sign. "Check the "yes" box." But wait... What does your "yes" REALLY mean? 👇 I didn't know what consent meant as a mom, school psych, or teacher for years... Let's change that, right now. 🔥 When it comes to IEP Consent, IDEA Law is clear. Parents are part of the IEP team. They can participate in every aspect of the special education process. AND, parents must be fully informed of their options when it comes to understanding their rights. If your child has an IEP, you're going to be asked to check the "yes" box MANY times. To know your options and make the right choice for you, I've put together a FREE fillable worksheet. Advocacy is a learned skill. You have the power to change your experience at the IEP table. 💪 Let's Rise Together! 👉 To get our FREE fillable worksheet, click the link below https://lnkd.in/g5fmrsWa Blouse by https://lnkd.in/ge5Gt4Aj Necklace and ring by https://lnkd.in/giZXQnrJ #iepadvocate #504advocate #iepsupport #parentingsupport #specialeducation #iep #disability #inclusion #spedteacher #learningdisabilities #adhd #autism #specialeducationadvocate

So your child needs a 504 Plan... How do you start? What do you need to do? It all comes down to what you say in your letter. Truth... 👇 Unless you know WHAT to ask for and HOW to get it, your school may say... ✅ "They don't need a 504." (aka deny your request) ✅ "We only give 504s for academics. They won't qualify." (this isn't true) ✅ "We can do a 504, but only for ______ accommodations." (accommodations are based on need not school policy) ✅ "Your child has to have a diagnosis to get a 504." (this isn't true) There is SO much mis-information when it comes to HOW to get a 504, when it comes to getting started and navigating the process. Truth: When I was a school psychologist, I was told by several administrators this is "how we do it", only to find out many policies and procedures where simply not true. There is an EASIER way to families to get their child a 504 Plan without drama or stress. Get our how-to fillable template that spells out exactly what to say and how to get the process STARTED. 👉 Follow Rise then tap the link to get your Initial 504 Template. https://lnkd.in/gtH4fTu9 Shirt by https://lnkd.in/gJGVQiVT Ring by https://lnkd.in/gMqtiAum #iepadvocate #iepresources #iepsupport #iepparents #educatedparent #iepfreedom #specialeducation #iep #disability #inclusion #spedteacher #learningdisabilities #adhd #autism #specialeducationadvocate

"I kept tell their teacher I wanted him tested, but nothing happened." Hearing this breaks my heart . 😭 The truth is, you DON'T have to wait to start IEP testing... 🔽 Parents have the right to initiate a request for special education testing WITHOUT having to "wait and see" or do interventions FIRST. Yes, schools may say that intervention is required AND IDEA Law is clear: Intervention cannot STOP parents from requesting special education testing. Kids CAN get intervention while the being assessed for an IEP... It all comes down to knowing WHAT to ask for and HOW to get it. I've got the digital guide that shows you WHAT to write in your request letter and step-by-step HOW to get the testing process started. Become the HERO for your child's education. "Wait, we only have 20 minutes for the IEP?" 😭 Has this ever happened to you? Unless you ask in advance the length of an IEP Meeting may not be spelled out on the... IEP Meeting notice. This is a HUGE issue and super frustrating for families. The truth is, if things aren't spelled out on your child's meeting notice or you aren't SURE, you have the ABILITY to ask BEFORE the meeting starts. As a member of the IEP team, you can ask questions and submit requests BEFORE a meeting. That means, you can ask the purpose of the meeting, what type of providers will be there, how long the meeting is scheduled for, and a TON of other things. It all comes down to knowing WHAT to ask for and HOW to get it. Want the fillable guide that I use as a special education advocate? 👉 Share in the comments how long your last meeting was? It's the #1 thing families NEED to know and what they're waiting for at their first IEP. Did they get in? The problem is... 🔽 Families are NEVER told about eligibility guidelines and districts DON'T share qualification criteria with families from the start. Why? Honestly, I dunno. The truth is eligibility guidelines ARE available on state websites (some easier than others) and are on Google. The problem? There's another hurdle that families need to cross so their child can qualify for an IEP. It's called the "3-Part Test". Sound familiar? If you haven't heard about it, then you're NOT alone. Arm yourself with WHAT you need to KNOW when it comes to qualification for ANY of the 13 IDEA categories and HOW you can advocate like a pro BEFORE your next eligibility/assessment meeting. "Aren't 504 Plans just for accommodations?" Nope! The truth is, there's a TON of supports, services, (yep you can get that) and protections if your child...🔽 has a 504 Plan. And... kids are protection under Section 504 EVEN IF they don't yet have a 504, but need one. Yep! The truth is, many schools DON'T regularly train staff who lead and attend 504 meetings on the 504 Process, what 504 assessments look like, discipline protections, etc. How do I know this. I LIVED it every day as a school psych and teacher for over 20 years. Families and teachers DESERVE a guide to help you navigate the entire 504 Process, that's easy to use, AND gives you ready to use templates right from the start.
