#TuesdayThoughts A question that keeps coming up in #SchoolLeadership is the place and role of gender in effective school leadership. While statistics show that globally, there are generally more male than female school leaders, various studies have shown that there is a positive association between female school leaders and student performance. Further, that being exposed to female leaders reduces negative stereotypes about the roles of women and that based on approaches and practices, female school leaders may contribute to reduction of the educational attainment gender gap. What’s your take on this? Dive into this report and see how more equitable participation of women in school leadership enhances #GenderEquality and better education outcomes through all levels of the education system. #SDG4QualityEducation #TransformingEducation #EducationMatters

We need more women in school leadership! School leadership plays a major role in shaping the quality of #education, fostering conducive learning conditions for students. Despite this, the characteristics of school leaders, particularly gender, have received little attention, especially in Sub-Saharan Africa. At the same time, positive outcomes associated with women’s leadership have been documented in domains such as politics, health, and business. 🤝Strong partnerships driven by a shared vision have enabled us to support school leaders across the Global South.🤝 In 2023, we collaborated with local organizations across 10 countries in the Global South, impacting over 4,000 school leaders. By offering technical and strategic support, we enable our partners to train school leaders in improving foundational learning, adopting gender-equitable leadership practices, and maintaining a balance between the instructional and administrative aspects of their roles. We also built materials capturing best practices around foundational literacy and numeracy and high-leverage actions that can enhance partners’ support to school leaders. 📖Explore our Annual Report 2023 to learn how these partnerships are empowering school leaders: https://bit.ly/4b86LrT Alokit, Dignitas Project, INSPIRASI Foundation, PEMIMPIN GSL, Centro Lemann, Ghana National Association of Private Schools - GNAPS , VIVA Vive Valores, Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. POV: Building the Next Generation of Female African Leaders 🌍 During our recent Like Her session, young women came together in groups to discuss the barriers girls like themselves face when pursuing an education—and brainstorm solutions to overcome them. This is what leadership looks like: collaboration, problem-solving, and resilience in the face of challenges. These girls are not just discussing their futures, they’re actively shaping it. ✨ At AKAYA, we’re committed to fostering environments where young women can openly discuss their experiences and, more importantly, work together to find actionable solutions. By addressing these issues head-on, we’re empowering the next generation to break barriers and lead in every sphere. #EducationForAll #LeadershipDevelopment #GirlsOfTodayLeadersOfTomorrow #AKAYAFoundation

🎯Through its work, ICVA supports local and national actors in influencing the humanitarian architecture to create an enabling environment for inclusive humanitarian leadership. In recent years, ICVA identified the development of leadership and capacity strengthening for local women leaders as an unmet need across the humanitarian system. In 2022 and 2023, ICVA launched a humanitarian leadership training programme for local and national Women-Led Organisations (WLOs) in the Asia-Pacific, East and Southern Africa, and Middle East and North Africa regions. Thanks to the support of the German Federal Foreign Office, this programme strengthened the leadership skills of 49 women leaders from 19 countries. It equipped participants with competencies in humanitarian coordination, collective advocacy, and policy influencing, while also breaking down stereotypes about women’s leadership. For many, it was a truly transformative experience, shaping new paths for collective action and engagement in the humanitarian space. 👉 More information about this initiative➡️ https://buff.ly/3ZGX53j #WomenLeadership #HumanitarianAction #InclusiveLeadership
