Local health departments (LHDs) play a crucial role in preparing for, responding to, and recovering from public health emergencies and disasters and, as such, are on the frontlines of the fight against the negative health impacts of climate change. As climate change is a complex issue, a comprehensive strategy that engages nontraditional partners, like Health in All Policies, is needed. NACCHO, with support from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry, has created a new resource ‘‘A Health in All Policies approach to addressing the health impacts of climate change’. In this resource, three local health departments —the Boston Public Health Commission, the Pima County Health Department and the City of New Orleans Health Department —discuss how they use Health in All Policies to address the impacts of climate change on their communities.
