Miami is soaring to new heights, ranking #3 for the tallest skyscrapers in the United States, following New York City and Chicago. The city’s skyline is rapidly evolving, with construction booming and new developments reshaping the urban landscape. Shawn Ursini from The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat predicts Miami will be one of the fastest-growing cities for tall buildings, a sentiment echoed by Eli Beracha from the Tibor and Sheila Hollo School of Real Estate, who sees vertical expansion as essential for Southeast Florida’s growth. The skyline’s transformation includes iconic projects like Waldorf Astoria Residences Miami, set to be Miami’s tallest building upon completion in 2026. ° ° ° #miamitrendyrealty #giovannagonzalez #puertorico #newyork #california #mexico #chile #brazil #canada #colombia #boricuas #miamicondos #miamihomes #miamirealestate #miamirealtor #movetomiami #floridarealestate #florida #luxuryrealestate #miami #skyscrapers #usaskyscrapers #tallestskyscrapers

NEW STORY // Urbanism 101: 15-Minute Cities, Walkability, and Accessibility https://lnkd.in/g6bY3peW Many cities are designed in a car-centric, sprawling way, rather than at people-friendly scales. The 15-minute city is an urban planning concept that intends to change this, with the idea that people should be able to access daily services and essentials within a 15-minute walk or bike ride. It sounds simple enough...

💡A short article reflecting on the impact of tactical urban interventions at the heart of Tallinn and their potential for improving quality of life and supporting adaptation capacity based on a 6-month empirical study by my team including Shimin 诗敏 Huang 黄, Brigita Tool and Kelli Marie Jaama commissioned by Tallinn Strategic Management Office.
Last summer, Tallinn’s historic Town Hall Square transformed from a sun-scorched cobblestone expanse into a vibrant pop-up park. 🌳 🇪🇺 As part of Tallinn’s European Green Capital 2023 designation, this initiative invited both locals and tourists to enjoy newly installed wooden benches, lounging areas, and lush plant containers equipped with educational QR codes. This transformation created a peaceful green retreat in the heart of the old town, turning what one visitor called a “stone desert” into a “biodiversity oasis.” 🐝 How can tactical urbanism improve urban environments and community life? An excellent critique here of the C6 tower in Perth - asking whether we should really be building tall buildings at all, and certainly whether it is efficient to do so in timber. Key takeaways for me: 👍As a positive, Andrew's article suggests an upfront carbon footprint of 10,000tCO2e*, which is 220kgCO2e/m2, or 41t per apartment - which sounds pretty good to me. Though I'd love to see the final numbers! ⛈️However... the 6000t of timber used in the building is coming from Austria, shipped to Australia. This would double the emissions related to that timber, I believe. Could this wood have been better used in Europe? If sustainability was the goal, why wasn't Australian timber prioritised? 🌱And, given that most of the surrounding buildings are 3-6 storeys tall, what's the need for a 52-storey tower here? If used in low-rise construction, could those 6000t have been used to create a greater floor area? Timber construction continues to gain interest, but we need to keep asking where, how, and why we use it. Is 'tallest timber building ever' really an accolade worth persuing? Thank you Andrew Waugh for provoking some thoughts with my morning coffee! #timber #structuralengineering #netzero #climatechange *calculated from the statement around the biogenic carbon stored in the structure outweighing the upfront emissions of the building. At 6000t of timber, this would be around 10,000t of upfront emissions.

I have a deep appreciation for the city of Bordeaux. (The wine too, but let's keep it professional for the moment...) The intense effort of France's fifth-largest city in redesigning itself for a better urban environment is remarkable. It constantly reminds me of what dense historic cities are capable of achieving despite their urban consolidation. When people tell me that old historical European cities cannot do much to improve mobility and public space within consolidated centric areas, I often refer to Bordeaux as an example. The impactful urban development strategies taken over the last four decades, fighting the car-centric mentality, can be seen and enjoyed at the River Garonne's waterfront, in the public transportation through LVT and bike networks, and in the many public squares with greenery and water features to beat the hot summer days, all within its now lovely, walkable city center. Again, Bordeaux gives me another reason to come back: Pont Simone-Veil. This beautiful new bridge not notable for its design by OMA but for its democratic function. It exemplifies the inversion of the pyramid of mobility in a single statement: within its 44-meter width, there are only four car lanes, but it primarily serves as "a linear public space to connect and serve the two adjoining communities that so far have not developed a strong identity." Active mobility, neighborhood connection, and new public space. It is not just a crossing path but also a destination in its own right. See you soon, Bordeaux. https://lnkd.in/dkMGicBz
