Gether’s Post

How can we remove barriers for female tech founders? Our co-founder Claire Waring recently spoke at a Hotwire PR event, sharing insights on female representation and inclusivity in the startup ecosystem. She outlined actionable ways to remove barriers for women, inspired by our journey with Techstars Tech Central Sydney Accelerator. Here’s a glimpse into the conversation with host Jen Dobbie: 💪 Lessons on Female Representation: It’s time to bust the myth of a “pipeline problem.” Female-led startups are out there, and they’re not just good—they’re exceptional. As 🍇 Kirstin Hunter Hunter, MD at Techstars, put it: “It’s not just sh!t hot women but sh!t hot women building incredible businesses. This is investment, not philanthropy.” Techstars sets the bar high, proving that inclusion isn’t a compromise. 🌍 Breaking Perceptions in Funding: Do women-led ventures have to work harder and present more metrics to prove themselves? Metrics and confident projections are critical. Gender bias unfortunately is alive and well, even if a lot of it is unconscious. Despite this, research shows that women-led teams generate higher returns, underscoring the value of investing in diverse teams. 🛠️ What Female Founders Need: Beyond funding, there are 3 ways to move the needle on support for female founders: - Mentorship is invaluable to any startup - giving your time helps generate money. - Subsidised Co-Working spaces could be game-changers for growing networks and scaling globally. - Extended perks can also make a huge difference in extending runway for diverse founders. As fellow panelist Noga Edelstein noted, beyond funding these are all ways the ecosystem can contribute financially to the success of #FemaleFounders. Thank you Hotwire Australia for hosting such a valuable conversation and Natalie Page for capturing it all so beautifully. I love that you summarised the action points people can take away that weren’t there. These events are great but sometimes preach to the choir, love that you opened it up for a look in. Maybe one point is inviting more men to these events for education 🤔. Regardless it was a great event and you did amazing!

Great takeouts from the event! Was amazing to see the Techstars cohort out in full to support, what legends 👏

Thanks for this awesome wrap up Gether | Techstars 2024. We love the action oriented tone and take outs. It was invaluable to have Claire Waring and her fantastic insights and current lived experience on the panel - and Elly Bartens in the room to ask some hard questions and spark debate.
