Well it's been a proper busy week this week. I spent Monday and Tuesday at a couple of MHCLG Roundtables with Alex Norris MP and lots of sector people (Nick Plumb was good to kinda see you over the teams link). My take aways from the debate (which tbh feel incredibly familiar for anyone that's been in our sector for a while) * making lasting change in communities needs long-term commitment and a more balanced relationship between 'top down' and 'bottom up'. * 'intermediary organisations' (organisations that are grounded in their place and are community led) are critically important for enabling change and bringing together the right partnerships * communities can and should be trusted to hold and spend funds, shaping programmes around what they know they need (who knew?) Some interesting questions that I took away: * what's the relationship/how can we strengthen the relationship between town councils/parishes as democracies most local tier and community organisations? *how can we shape existing community Rights to make them more useful and meaningful? --- and my overarching thought - Local Infrastructure Organisations are the ultimate 'intermediary organisation' they exist (amongst other things) to link up the different bits of community action and 'the state' and increasingly they work with neighbourhood anchors/intermediary orgs to enable us to be more than the sum or our parts (thinking of you Hannah Bailey, Rebecca Mear and loads of others). *** Well - Roundtables are all very well - but the best bit of my job is getting out of my box and meeting the fantastic people and organisations that are out there making change every day and I had the opportunity to do that when I visited Hunts Forum of Voluntary Organisations' AGM. I was priviledged to be there for 30 years of Hunts Forum, for Julie Farrow's last AGM and for the vote on an exciting new chapter. I absolutely love Hunts Forums 'Good to Go Governance mark' (https://lnkd.in/gcnJYvEF) which enables community orgs to know that they're up and running effectively and safely. Supporting Your Local Service Men’s Club: A Simple Way to Make a Difference Sometimes, the best thing we can do is to show up for our community. Our local service men’s clubs play an important role, providing a space for veterans and locals alike to connect, share stories, and support one another. Being a part of your community means giving back, whether it’s through volunteering, attending events, or simply being present. These clubs offer much more than just a social space—they are a lifeline for many, providing camaraderie, support, and belonging. Let’s not forget that by supporting our local service men’s clubs, we’re also preserving a piece of history, honouring those who have served, and fostering community spirit. It’s one of the simplest, yet most meaningful, ways to be a citizen and make a positive impact in your local area. In times where communities feel more divided than ever, showing up for local causes can only bring good. Let’s make the effort—together we can create a stronger, more connected community. #CommunitySupport #Veterans #LocalCauses #SupportYourLocal #UK

Community is more than a place. It's about the lives we touch and the impact we make. Chairing the Punggol West Community Centre Management Committee... I have seen the power of community engagement. It creates a space where people feel supported, connected, and empowered. The impact? We nurture a sense of belonging and mutual support. From youth programs to initiatives for the elderly, our efforts are designed to make sure no one feels left out or behind. Why this matters... In a world that's increasingly digital. The human connection matters more than ever. Our work in the community is a reminder of the tangible difference we can make in each other's lives. Here's what I've learned... Every contribution, no matter how small, has the potential to spark change. Whether it's volunteering a few hours, participating in a clean-up, or simply lending an ear to someone in need, it all adds up. And the best part? The joy of seeing our community... Come together. Overcome challenges. Celebrate achievements. Witnessing this strength in action is truly rewarding. So, here's my invitation to you: Get involved. Make an impact. Your community needs you. And trust me, the fulfillment you'll find in service is unparalleled. Together, let's make a difference. Not just for today, but for generations to come. #WeMakeImpact

Have you ever wondered what makes a community thrive? 🌟 Had the privilege of hearing from Superintendent Dr. Howard Hepburn with Broward County Schools today at Rotary Club of Weston where he amplified firsthand the power of collaboration and community engagement with our scholarships and assistance to the students and schools in our community. Our collective efforts are not just about education or service; they’re about building a stronger, more connected community. Our Rotary initiatives focus on holistic development, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to excel academically and personally. The support from local organizations like ours has been phenomenal, and it’s this unity that drives our success. The Weston Rotary plays a crucial role in this ecosystem. Through various service projects and community events, we’re able to address local needs and foster a spirit of giving back. Whether it’s organizing fundraisers, supporting local businesses, or mentoring young professionals, the impact of our collective efforts is profound. #Interact plays a crucial role for us connecting to the needs of the schools. This is the Rotary High School version! Community updates are essential to keep everyone informed and engaged. Regular communication ensures transparency and allows us to celebrate our achievements together. It also provides a platform to address challenges and brainstorm solutions collaboratively. I believe that the strength of our community lies in our connections. By working together, sharing ideas, and supporting one another, we can create an environment where everyone thrives. Let’s continue to build these connections and make a positive impact. #CommunityEngagement #Education #ServiceAboveSelf #Rotary #janitorial #CommericialCleaning #givingback #redcoats

TOMORROW MORNING (SATURDAY AUGUST 3RD) at 7:30 AM our amazing Who I Am Foundation volunteers in #Phoenix will be cleaning up the community once again! In honor of Kenny "Fanatic" Hogan, for this Community Clean-Up our volunteers, along with Bluprint Music Group, will be meeting up in the parking lot of Rodriguez Boxing Club, located at 1350 W Roosevelt St Phoenix, AZ 85007 NO OPEN-TOED SHOES Cleaning up loose trash is one of the best ways to pitch in for your community and the environment. Volunteering as a means to help conserve and protect the environment has a lot of upsides. Of course, the first is that you’ll be taking care of our planet, and it badly needs a little love given the myriad ways in which we’ve become adept at destroying it. But beyond that, volunteering for a cause you care about is a great way to meet like-minded people, make friends, and pull yourself out of the blues that sometimes accompany caring a lot about something important – especially if you feel alone in your endeavors. None of us like the sight of litter. Litter spoils the look of where we live but that’s not the only reason for picking up litter. There are a number of benefits from picking up litter that you may not have considered before. Volunteer-led projects such as these are one of the quickest, simplest, and least expensive ways to inspire more community spirit and civic action. A visually appealing community increases property values, attracts businesses, and improves the neighborhood's image. Beauty is one of the three most influential factors in community attachment, which means loyalty, to your particular town or city. Some research even shows that a nice-looking neighborhood promotes good behavior. Join us in keeping the community clean! For more information: https://lnkd.in/gg_x58uR #TeamWhoIAm_Phoenix
