🌟 Tune in to Life Matters: School Canteens in the Spotlight 🌟 In our recent appearance on ABC's Life Matters, we discussed the critical challenges facing school canteens and tuckshops, highlighting their pivotal role in promoting a sense of community and healthy eating among children. With increasing food insecurity, rising costs, and mounting pressures on families, school canteens are at risk like never before. 🎙️🍏 To address these issues, FOCIS will host a National Roundtable to Save Our School Canteens and Tuckshops. We encourage government decision-makers, public health advocates, nutrition experts, and school canteen operators to register their interest so we can explore sustainable solutions to keep canteens financially viable and ensure children have access to affordable, nutritious meals. Stop ✋️. There is no need for a "new National School Fund Program", provinces already have their own programs, stop pretending. Leave provincial matters alone. Federal Government is not responsible to feed children, if you feel guilty axe the tax so food will be more affordable for all Canadians, families with children or not. We don't need to rely on you, to pay from our tax dollars things we don't need, like this food program, free drugs, $10.00 child care and "free dental care", no such thing as free, our tax dollars pay for everything. Instead of the above useless programs, start building homes for homeless and supplement provincial food banks. Do something right, do something decent and do something worthwhile instead of wasting our money and sending it out of the country. Take care of Canadians for once and stop pretending. Do the right thing. Canadians are first, not last as you have been treating us.
We’re creating a new National School Food Program to provide 400,000 more kids with healthy meals every year. But Pierre Poilievre would cut it. Read more about this important news for families here 👇 https://lnkd.in/e3aUuC6e

It's about time......Our children spend more time/ hours at school than at home. What they are fed inside and outside the school premises is of utmost importance. In terms of Oral Health.....the school tuckshops need to be regulated as well....not just the school vendors. Our children are sold foods and drinks of very high sugar content. That is another form of food poisoning as well. This becomes detrimental to their oral health in the long run. Well done to Dept of Education for taking such an important step in dealing with this matter. However instead of increasing unemployment......run workshops that educate these vendors on healthier food options that they could sell to the children. Fresh fruits and peanuts, frozen yogurts etc were not a bad option for the kids. Increase healthy food literacy in the school environment.........to enable our children to make healthier food choices. School feeding program is the best platform you have to take such initiatives. Why stop at breakfasts? As highlighted in The Guardian this week (https://lnkd.in/eMmYPvUG), paediatricians in England are pushing for universal free lunches for primary pupils, a step we at Rethink Food fully support. But it’s not just about filling plates—it’s about filling minds too! Nathan Atkinson co-founder of Rethink Food, emphasises: “Universal free lunches for children would be welcomed, however, it is essential that this is backed up by high-quality food education to support children be better equipped to support themselves in the future.” Ensuring that children not only receive free meals but also the knowledge to make healthier food choices is a crucial part of breaking the cycle of food poverty and building a healthier future for all. Let’s rethink food education for the next generation! #letsRethinkFood #FoodEducation #UniversalFreeLunches #ChildHealth

How 30 Seconds and the WASH Curriculum Save Lives When children are born into water scarcity, basic hygiene measures like handwashing are an unaffordable luxury. Water- and sanitation-related diseases, despite being preventable, remain one of the most significant child health problems worldwide. Diarrhea is the most devastating, killing over 3,000 children each day. 88% of diarrheal disease is attributed to unsafe drinking water, inadequate sanitation, and poor hygiene. Even when waterborne disease doesn’t kill, it still costs children days of education, crucial brain and body development, and precious family funds in medical care. Building rainwater harvesting systems on primary schools is how that changes. Not only does it introduce a shift from scarcity to sufficiency, but we capitalize on the educational potential with our WASH curriculum, teaching children about Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene. #wash #water #health https://lnkd.in/gdcgqWgp
